Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Grab your friends (make sure there hungry) and have them help you take on the Big Lou. Whats the Big Lou? its a enormous pizza to say the least. basically this place is a good date restaurant (I've been on several here my self) its dim the food is good the atmosphere is laid back and its easy to find, but beware if she's a vegetarian this is probably not the best place to take her especially if you like to scarf down pizza like yours truly does! The cons well there aren't very many i guess one would be if you don't like siting next to smelly fresh from the baseball game little leaguers you might not like this place that much I personally don't care I've been there done that South Side Cowboys!!!!!

I hadn't heard of Big Lou's until I saw its feature story on Man vs. Food. With a recent, first (but not last) trip to conquer the 42" pizza, I was able to experience a great pizza place. We arrived there pretty early in the evening, so the wait to be seated was not long at all. Although when we left, the parking lot was crowded and I'm sure those people came to face a longer wait than my family had. It was a little discouraging when the wait was said to be an hour for the pizza to be made, but I imagine that's typical for a pizza that can solve world hunger. My family took advantage of Big Lou's great happy hour specials and by the time we knew it, our pizza was brought to us. The eating experience was great. We ordered just a simple cheese and pepperoni pizza, but the flavors were great. The crust is brushed with this garlic sauce, adding more great flavors, really compliments the cheese. For our pizza, yes, the slices were on the thin size..but for a 42" pizza..I'm not gonna complain. I'm definitely going back with my friends to try an truly conquer the 42" pizza and considering making the drive for a few to go orders. Go eat here, decide for yourself. For a REAL good time, get the 42" and take a bunch of friends.

The pizza wraps = artery clogging goodness that is unsurpassed. You must try them before you die :)

This was the worst visit to a pizza place ever we waited 45 mins for our pizza and hot wings and when we were about to leave they told us our pizza and hot wings were sitting under the light we went to the restroom and it was dirty and only one and a whole lot of people waiting we came all the way from Calif. to eat at big lou's after seeing it on TV but it was not worth the wait we went to peter pipers pizza in San Antonio and it was so much better the pizza at big Lou's had no flavor. The waitress was very rude and there was 13 of us so her tip was included in the bill but she did not deserve it.

Pizza quality was disappointing. Better than national chains but far below the quality one searching for NY or Chicago style would expect. Lines are terribly long. 90 min wait during my visit. I had to resort to take out and eating in the parking lot, so plan ahead and plan to wait. One other note - for those not familiar with San Antonio (especially tourists attracted by Big Lou's Man v Food notoriety), Big Lou's is not located in the best neighborhood in the world and that can be a bit disconcerting especially at night.

Four friends and I took down the 42 inches of pure heaven. The owner... Lou.. told us besides his family, the pizza has never been eaten by so few people. Each slice is the equivalent of a 10 inch pie and we all had 3 slices. We were so miserable that I was sweating, and literally could barely stand, we all puked, nevermind the stomach aches, and bragging rights that I'm still proud of to this day. I can't wait to go back!

I've heard about Big Lou's Pizza on Man v Food, so I had to try it out. I went last night, a Saturday night, at about 6. We get within one block of the place and there are already cars parked up and down S WW White Rd because their parking lot is so full. When we get to the door there looks to be about 20ish people waiting outside and what looks like double that waiting inside. We order our pizza and put our names on the list and head to the full bar. At the bar, we meet the owner himself, I assuming his name is Big Lou. Loved him. Nicest old man. You can tell that most of the customers are local to that side of town and are repeats, so Big Lou makes a big effort to meet new customers. Hence all the return business. We were also pleased to hear he had plans to expand the parking lot, which shouldn't be too hard since he is his own neighbor. We had to wait about 40 minutes for a table, and there was only 2 of us. The wait was about an hour for larger groups. But after we were seated we didn't have to wait too long for our pizza. I loved it, the pizza was great. We didn't get the 42", but a lot of people did. I saw about 8 big pizzas in the time I was there. You always know when one is coming because the waitresses yell "Big Pizza, Big Pizza" to clear a path through the crowd. I even saw one family compare their young toddler to one slice of their 42". The toddler was just barely taller, and multiple pictures taken to document the occasion.

4 hours later and my belly is still as full as a ripe watermelon. Giant pizzas are a gimmick for sure but they are also delicious and served hot. Place was packed on Saturday at 11:30 with standing room only but we were not about to go somewhere else for mediocre food. The parking lot was full and people were even parking on the street. It is located in an old house converted into a pizza joint with a small bar. You order the pizza first and then they call you when they have a table ready, the pizza comes soon after. Our wait was only about 30 minutes even though they warned us it would be an hour. No problem, we sat at the bar and had a beer until time to eat. We had a 20" double peperoni and a 4 meat for 6 people. I ate 5 pieces because I don't know how to quit. Everyone else had 3 or less. We left with a giant pizza box full of leftovers for later. All in all I highly recommend it even though it may be touristy and parking sucks.

I had been here a few times about 5 years ago and was a huge fan. I was disappointed that they didnt serve pizza by the slice anymore, but got over it very quickly. The pizza was as good as it ever was, the only problem I had was the sauce was a little too acidic for my stomach to handle, so I had to limit my consumption. The crust is just how I like it, since I am a NY style pizza fan. Even though it is in the ghetto, I will be coming back.

fed 21 people with 2 42" pizzas...great pizza and a fun time! Recommend for big party's

Had the 14' Super topping Pizza that had Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Sausage, Canadian Bacon, Green Olive, Black Olive, Beef, Onions, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Garlic and an order of a dozen mild chicen wings. Ample seating surrounded by sports memorbilia and the State of Texas outlined in neon lights. The food was average. The pizza at costco is a better deal for a little better quality. I guess the big thing here is the massive 42' pizza. I did like how they offered a pitcher of soda instead of beer. This place is also a drive away from San Antonio central.
(2)Corina V.
I've been here twice! I took my bf for his bday and of course he ordered a 42' just for him and I....that was freakin' a big ole pizza!!! It def was worth the experience and the money. We fed our kids with that pizza for a week lol. I love how they have TV's everywhere and if your lucky they might be showing your favorite football team! GOO RAIDERS! LOL
(4)Dwayne P.
Love it. Fun to see the kids faces when the pizza came out to the table. If I had to say on bad thing it would be about the ranch but all and all it was good.

(5)Janelle F.
I love this place , the pizza is great especially considering the size even if you order the biggest one !!!!! Come hungry and enjoy !!!!!
(5)Megan C.
SO DELICIOUS!! The pizza is giant AND delicious. Best of both worlds...
(5)Christopher S.
Off the m f'n chain. Ok thought it was big pizza and that's it, not the case. Dough is supreme with complex taste. Sauce melds with cheese and meat like nobodies business. Staff are friendly, attentive and down right bad a--. Ya gotta go with a large group would be spectacular.
(5)Jose M.
Ordered a big pepperoni pizza 37 inch on Saturday that will feed 10 people easily, brought the whole family. Pizza is not that great I agree with another poster chuckee cheese style pizza, and definitely not worth the over 2 hour wait or price. They charge a 16-18 (can't remember) percent service fee for 8 or more people which really jacks up the price. Waiter came to us 2 times in the 2 hour wait so not sure what the service fee is for. Cheese bread was great, wings mediocre, happy hour is great drinks ice cold and mixed drinks were great. So I give it 2 stars for the drinks, cheese bread, and wings. If this was a review for a bar then it would get a higher review. I think this is fair as the lacking quality of pizza, bad service, jacking up of price, and disgusting bathrooms does not make this place warrant anything past that.

The Guinness World Record for the largest pizza is 46.64 square foot pie that weighed in around 100 pounds and took nearly two hours to cook by the Dirt Road Cookers, a team of eight caterers from San Antonio. I think they were inspired by Big Lou's Pizza, where you can get a pizza almost that big every day for your hungry group. Everything is oversized at Big Lou's, giant drinks by the pitcher and even 1$ pints of beer. Big Lou's is the place to take your large group for a large time.

A celebration on a Wednesday at 415pm made our visit to Big Lou's quick and easy. No line, no wait for seats and not at all crowded. That is a huge plus for me. We ordered the biggest pizza with mushrooms and pepperoni. Came out quick and was warm when we got it. Overall...it was "ok". Nothing overwhelming great...however the crust was very tasty. When I finished my ONE piece, I felt like I had a grease ball in my stomach...no bueno. Bar was lacking limes for DosXX or anything else. Bartender told me they were too expensive so they won't have them anymore! Seriously??? We paid over 200 dollars for pizza and beer and limes were too expensive when we all know your margins are incredible. Kinda bummed about that. Will I go back, sure...with company.

During my last visit to S. A I knew I had to visit big Lou's. My visit was mixed. It was very packed which I expected but was then surprised to see they made us wait nearly an hour to be seated when only a quarter of the dining room was full?? Now I understand that they have to seat parties to what's available but there was many parties of 4-5 who were waiting when there was at least 20 tables open so that greatly confused me. The to go counter people were super sweet & the the guy at the back bar was awesome. The only staff who needs a lil training is the cashiers. They were unfriendly & not very informative. This is sad because they make or break your visit especially for 1st timers. The pizza was good not the best pizza I've had but good and seeing the kids reaction was priceless. I'm up in the air if I would go back but I'm glad I took my kids at least once.

Being completely honest there's really not a whole lot of things I like about San Antonio. However, if someone asked me to go back to Big Lou's I would be there in 5 minutes. Their pizza is good, really good. Everyone has been to the Alamo and the Riverwalk- so go eat a giant, yummy pizza for once in your life!! I shared a gigantic pizza with a group of about 8 or 9 people I was with. Yes, it will take you that many people to share a pizza that big. It is expensive, and takes awhile to cook. The pieces of pizza take up maybe 3 plates they are so long. The crust was nice and soft, the cheese they use is awesome (probably the fattiest kind there is), and the ingredients were fresh and plentiful. Big Lou's has been on every show imaginable, so the line to actually get in was kind of long. This didn't bother me really, especially since the pizza was so good. Did I mention the pizza was awesome??? In summation, get off your high horse, and eat a giant or small pizza from Lou's- whatever you can fit in your belly.

I guess I can't comment on the food because we never got around to it. I was meeting my family with another group at the restaurant. As we were waiting, I took my son to the bathroom because he had to wash his hands. One urinal was broken with a trash bag over it, and one stall had a sign in the door saying it was out of order. A teenager came out of the stall with a bewildered look on his face and said,"There is poop all over the place" I looked at the floor, and I saw what looked like peanut butter spread with a shoe in 4 or 5 creamy patches. It almost blended in with the color of the floor. I was shocked by what I saw, because there was easily 300 people in the building at the time shuffling to and fro. I went back outside to wait on the bench and told my wife what I just saw, she said the women's was similar, only the toilets were backed up to the rims. I went to the hostess and told her the status of the bathroom, so she told someone else. Nobody moved. Nobody scrambled. I asked her "what did she say?" She said she was getting a busboy to deal with it. The gears started rolling in my head, I worked in restaurants before, busboys are 18 yrs old, busboys are concerned with what is happening when they get off work, what is on Facebook, smoking cigarettes behind the building, busboys don't have the drive for bacteria elimination, busboys have the job for a few weeks because they hate their job, now you want one to go into a sweaty bathroom and clean smeared turds off a floor? Now my mind shifts to the mop, spreading, and flopping, and spreading and flopping, and the water turning cloudy, and spreading and flopping. Then, as I sit watching the people go back and forth, shuffling feet, tracking feces, back and forth, dresses sliding around shoes, tracking, walking, talking walking shuffling, oblivious to the fact you have a poop ridge on the side of your loafer. Back and forth to the tables, Indian style on the booth, I understand. So we ask how long the wait is right now, she said, "1-2 hours". Do you know how much poop could be spread to all the areas and kitchen in that amount of time? Anyway, my mind is blown at this time, and seeing no mop buckets or cleaning crews after 10 minutes, we decide to leave. Bottom line, famous restaurant =tons of customers, tons of customers = one will probably drop a deuce. Tons of customers for this restaurant means - money at register is better than fixing broken toilets or cleaning up poop. I used to manage a restaurant, and customer areas like bathrooms were a priority. Putting black trash bags over a problem area will definitely get you back to selling souvenir t-shirts faster than calling the repair man.

I went twice to big lous and this pizza is so over rated,i didnt find it good at all,the first visit i ordered a supreme and it seemed as if they were trying to unload all the olives on me it tasted strong of olives, the second visit was whatever i guess if ur into paper thin pizza with clearly canned sauce with cheese.my opinion if ur looking to feed alot of people get a bunch of little ceasers pizza and go home its cheaper that way too

Hey, it's pizza! It's in San Antonio! And it's on national television so why would I not give it five stars?!?! Seriously though, when it comes to food I'm no poser and for me Big Lou's has a lot more going on to make it five star worth!. In no particular order let me ramble on about it. I love that it is hidden away on the East side of town and I don't mind the trip to got out there. It's almost a special occasion in itself and sometimes it literally is, as I think we have gone there for at least three birthday parties. They always treat us right too and they bring out a megaphone to announce the birthdays. I love the grit of the place how it was just once an old house (it still seems to be) and they have just kept adding on rooms and patios around it to try to accommodate everyone. They also give it a sports bar feel to spicing up the place along with and an ample dose of kitsch! For example, the table I ate at had a Formica jellybean print on top of it. When I wasn't looking at that, there were the pair of jackalopes mounted on the wall nearby and a flat screen TV with the Spurs game on it to compete for my attention. Most of the time when I go there it is with my family and my wife's extended family. There are usually 9 to 10 of us. We order two 20 in. pizzas, four dozen wings and we usually have a lot of pizza left over when it is all done. I highly recommend making one of the pizzas a barbecue pizza with half brisket and the other half chicken. It's the greatest!!!! If you and your buds get the giant table-top pizzas which they are known for - sorry you will still have tons of leftover pizza no matter how much you thought of it you could get in your belly. A few words of warning for eating at Lou's. The place is insanely popular! We got there 6 PM on a Friday and the line was around the building. When we left at around 8:30 , there was still a line. I have gone on Sunday afternoons and it has been crowded as well. Once you get to the front of the line you are now able to order your food. You still have to wait until you table is ready after that. We got lucky tonight and they had a table for us in less than five minutes. Most of the times I have gone though I have not had to wait for a table. Once you sit down they don't have an agenda to run you off, so you can relax and enjoy time spent with friends and family. The sports bar feel can be a little overwhelming so if you are not into that this might not be the pace for you. If you are buying alcohol you will be better off starting a tab at the bar. If you live in San Antonio, you need to make the trip out there at least once! If you are visiting SA and you end up there, congrats, you've made it to one of those "off the beaten path" places that you want to go to when you visit another city. So check that off your list!!
(5)Kevin T.
This place was amazing! It was our first trip there and it was fantastic. To be honest, I was really upset about the wait. We got there 30 minutes before they opened and the line was already going around the building. By the time we sat down I was determined to write this place a scathing report and blast them for taking so long to seat people. However, the beer specials and food absolutely made up for the wait. The wings were good, not great, but good. The pizza was fantastic, and the beer was ice cold and cheap. We will absolutely make plans to go here again.

So, you know how a lot of those eating challenges, and places that boast the 'largest (fill-in-the-blank)-ever' generally are all about the size, and not about the quality? I have to say, that Big Lou's is NOT one of those places. I have been to multiple restaurants that serve outrageous food, and more times than not, the food is pretty bad. Meaning, it is all just one giant publicity-gimmick in order to generate revenue and star on the popular food shows televised on the various networks. Being a native NY'er, I was fully expecting a greasy, awful mess of a pizza with only one purpose--snapping a photo of it and sharing it on Facebook. I was more than pleasantly surprised though, and easily 'downed' two slices of delicious dough, cheese, and sauce. Food: When we arrived, we knew what we were getting. The 6 of us embarked on a journey that so many other groups had done prior. We ordered the 42" mammoth of delicious awesomeness. When it arrived, it had all the markings of a damn good pizza. The cheese was bubbly, spotted with darkened cheese, and the dough was baked to chewy (almost too chewy), tender perfection. The sauce had a great tomato flavor, and complimented the rest of the savory pizza very well. It really was a very good pizza. Was it on par with 46th street or Florio's--um, no; but it was damn good pizza. In fact, it reminds me of a place back home in NY we used to go when we drank a little too much alcohol. In fact, if I were ever in the area and inebriated, this is absolutely where we would go. Food: 4 / 5 Service: This was an extremely high point for the restaurant. Admittedly, the person taking our order at the front counter was a little bit annoying, and obviously had a serious attitude problem. But, I understand the hardships of retail. From there though, our server, the manager on duty, and every other person we came into contact with was incredibly friendly, helpful, and cool. I don;t usually use 'cool' in a review; but there really is no other word for it. They were down-to-Earth, funny, personable, attentive, and extremely helpful. You guys have awesome service, even for a place that probably doesn't need goo service since you are generating traffic by being on the Food Network. Service: Awesome 5 / 5 Atmosphere: How can you beat this atmosphere? I whole bunch of people crammed into a restaurant, and all there for one thing -- giant pizza. It is fun to watch the pizzas come out, and the people at the table it is going to ooo and ahhh with delight. It is an extremely fun, light, and welcoming atmosphere. Again, Awesome! The one down-side is that it can get very loud. Sometimes to the point where you are screaming across the table to talk to someone. Atmosphere: 4 / 5 (minus one point for the extremely loud atmosphere) Price: Honestly, for the price, this is an awesome experience. After you experience it for the first time, the price is still perfect for a second trip, a third trip, and so on. This is one of those experiences that you will always remember, regardless of how many times you come. Price: 4 / 5 Final Impressions: If you want an awesome experience, with good food, and really great servers, I think you can't go wrong at Big Lou's. Plus, like I said above, this is an experience you will always remember, with people you will always remember. This is definitely worth your time, but I would recommend going at off-hours (between 1 and 4), because it can get incredibly busy and loud.

How excited were we when our neighbors invited us to a birthday bash At Big Lou's Pizza? We had never been but it was definitely on our bucket list for Pizza in San Antonio. It was about A 30-minute drive from our home so I wasn't Positive it was going to be worth the trouble. Boy was I wrong. We saw the Yellow glow of the sign with the clover and pulled in and drove to the Back of the building to park. It was a Friday night so there were lots of cars in the parking lot but we managed Rather quickly to find a parking spot. There was a long corridor/entry when we walked in with signs leading us to the Happiest group of staff at the counter. There was actually no line to the counter, Despite the fact that there were so many people there. The staff at the front Asked us if were here for a birthday and were all smiling and when we told them Yes, we were there for Tim's Birthday. They seemed very excited. We walked around to the other side of the wall and saw our party sitting around a bunch of tables that had been pushed together. They asked if we had ever seen the big pizza. I told them we had seen it on TV but they insisted we had not seen the one that was coming. A very friendly waitress came over and with pitcher's of soda and there were cups of ice and straws already on the table. My husband went to get us two beers from the bar. I told him that I wanted a Ziegenbock and he came back with a Killian's Irish Red. Oh, I love that man of mine, he knows me so well. He said the Ziegenbock's were only a dollar but you have to buy a minimum of five. That is quite a good deal! I believe this offer is only valid Monday through Friday. The staff began to come over and clear things from the middle of the table. They decided to add two more tables to be sure there was enough room for our full party and for what was to come... And then it appeared from the other side of the wall... Two men carrying the biggest pizza pie I have ever seen. It was a 62" pizza! Half pepperoni and Half supreme. I had heard of the 42" pizza but it didn't even compare to this mammoth. The whole restaurant burst into applause and we just stared, mouths agape, as they placed it on the table. Every one at the table started taking pictures and then other people came over to take pictures. The star had arrived and with it, the paparazzi. We were given silverware in individual white paper holders. We were also given long rectangle-shaped metal plates that we could slide under each slice of pizza in order to pull it from the enormous pie. Now, I didn't have high hopes for the taste of the pizza since I figured the novelty of the size was what most people came to experience. However, I was amazed at how good it was. I especially liked the sauce. Now, you would think that big pizza was more than enough food to serve. But, not at Big Lou's. The staff come over with salads and wings to accompany the pizza! There was no way I was having any of that. Most of us couldn't even finish one slice of that pizza. My husband had 1 1/2 slices and the birthday man had THREE slices. Since it was a birthday celebration, the staff came over and had a big cardboard sign for the birthday man to wear along with a bucket hat. He got up on a table wearing the sandwich-sign. The whole restaurant sang to him and we took lots of pictures. It was such a fun night and the staff and managers came over several times during the night to make sure we were having a good time and to express how happy they were that we were there. Everyone wanted to know how I was going to rate this on YELP. I told them four stars but after reflecting on the night, how I could I give it any less than FIVE stars? Perfect Service, Quality Pizza, and the best part, a wonderful memory. Thank you Big Lou's and Keep up the Great Work!
(5)Vanessa A.
Food was good and the beer was cheap- great combination! This was our first stop on the way in, it was a late dinner for us. The staff is all younger college kids, but the service was GREAT! $12.99 for a bucket and $30 for a 20" pizza. They have TVs with ESPN.
(4)Tim L.
Big Lou's is famous for it's 42 inch pizza. So that's exactly what we got. My group of 10 decided we were going to challenge ourselves to finish the pizza in one sitting and leave no trace. I didn't expect a pizza big enough to feed a giant could be good. I mean, how would they cook the mammoth pizza evenly? Still, no one was going to stop us from doing what we came to do. We were told we had to wait around 60 minutes for the pizza to come out. That's SIXTY agonizing minutes. But with the challenge at hand every one of us decided to pass on any appetizers. When the pizza finally came out we were overwhelmed by the size of it. We've all seen it in pictures and on TV, but it was much larger in person. Each slice of pizza was at least a foot long and could cover your entire head. Don't do it though unless you want all your toppings to fall off. I learned the hard way. We dug right in and were surprised at how good the pizza was. The crust was actually really good. We expected it to be extra dry seeing that it took so long to make. That's definitely wasn't the case. The layer of cheese was pretty thick, but it was still very enjoyable. Finally, the toppings all packed a lot of flavor. The meat was pretty tender and the veggies tasted fresh. No complaints here. After eating the first slice some of us hit the food wall. I, being the fatty I am, kept on trucking. After finishing the second slice it all started to catch up with me and each additional bite started to taste worse and worse. Some people had quit so I actually had to eat someone else's third slice. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life, but the satisfaction we got for killing the pizza made everything worth it. I would love it if Big Lou's could take your order over the phone so you wouldn't have to wait so long. At the same time I understand why they don't allow for this. I wouldn't want to make such a large pizza for someone who could possibly be a no show. A 4 topping 42" pizza will set you back just over $71 so when you split it up with your party it actually comes out to a very cheap price considering it was practically a buffet. If you're looking for the awe factor in San Antonio this is the place for you!
(4)Becca L.
The wait is ridiculous!! Don't go if you anywhere near hungry because you will starve waiting in line! It's worth the wait once you get the food. Got the brisket pizza. Came with pickles to put on and it was incredible!!! Loved it! Pizzas are sooooo huge. Don't know how they do it! I saw one pizza the size of a Volkswagen bug in diameter!! Like 6 feet. Good food but such a long long long wait.
(4)Mark W.
What a pie! You can get pizza just about anywhere these days. I'd rather get it from here though. These folks got it going on in the kitchen!
(5)Janel A.
Hands down, the best pizza I've eaten outside of Rome, New York, and Chicago. Right amount of sauce, delicious veggie toppings. The wait can be long, so you can either arrive early or call ahead to take it home.
(4)Amanda A.
Thought it would be an overrated pizza place from all the hype but they're seriously good pizzas. Very tasty and thin, just how I like 'em. When u first arrive u see it's no an expected sit-down-order-with-your-waiter type of place, once u arrive all parties need to be there and have made a decision on what to eat (they don't only serve pizza). We got seated, had our drinks brought (drinks are NOT small which I love) and waited a few minutes. I catches up with my college friends and met new friends and when we least expected our pizza came in. Whoa, we should've gotten a bigger table lol! The pizza was as big as the table, no kidding! Needless to say, I was glad I didn't eat the whole day thinking about our 37in. pizza.
(4)Brian E.
I will admit, we have been wanting to eat here for several years. Ever since Man vs. Food came to San Antonio we have wanted to order the large pizza. Our excuse finally came when we had a group of four. This was not substantial amount of people to try such a large pizza, but it was still fun. The price for the large pizza seems expensive upon first look, but when you break down by the servings, it is actually right on. The pizza was actually very good, and it was a spectacle to see it brought out. The largest issue was the crowds. Even on a Saturday at 3pm, we had a one hour wait to be seated, followed by a 45 minute wait for our pizza. It was worth it for a one time visit, but we will not be rushing back. The staff were incredibly friendly.
(4)Robert L.
Hands Down the best pizza I have ever had! Big Lou's pizza besides having the biggest pizza I have ever seen is FREAKING delicious. The slices are nice and thin New York style and while toppings and cheese are great what makes this pizza is the sauce it is all about the sauce. With their recent expansion there is a lot more room to be able and find a seat just realize that this place can get ridiculously busy because of its popularity and being on Travel Channel and Food Network. The salads are great and the wings aren't bad. Local families come here for occasions of all kinds as it is great and a volume of a higher kind here also pretty popular to go watch sporting events from. If trying to eat at please get there early to make sure you get a table and if ordering for pick up just make sure to have time set aside for a prolonged amount of time for them to make.
(5)Mari Y.
Awesome pizza and worth the wait. BTW, the person who said there is no line at 10:00 was exactly right!
(4)Heidi G.
When we first pulled up it looked like a warehouse. It is enormous inside with all different rooms. You need to take some time to walk through them and look around. The ordering process is a little confusing as you order your food at the counter, pay and then they will seat you. We had the BBQ Brisket pizza which is not on the menu but just ask. The pizza crust was thin and well cooked and the brisket was great. The atmosphere and service is good for families or large groups. If you have a large group go for the BIG pizza (42 incher) just for the fun of it.
(3)Vonia P.
Big Lou's exemplifies to me that Bigger is not always Better. Yes, we are in Texas... That is a common motto, yet an erroneous one. The novelty is definitely fun [42" anyone?], but that does not necessarily compensate for subpar food. We had a 20" with 3 toppings. The toppings were decently given, the dough was moist, the cheese was over-baked, the sauce was there. Not quite to the level of a Hot & Ready @ Little Caesar's, but I would rather have Pizza Hut/Domino's. The calzone we had, also with three toppings, was honestly the worse I have had, even frozen. The dough was extremely thin; The cheese was overbaked; The toppings were overcooked; The sauce was all over. They literally seemed to have taken a pizza & folded it over. That is not how a calzone is created!!!!!.... The ambiance was definitely nice; I can see why there are regulars there. A great place for a party, but if you are expecting good pizza, you will be disappointed.
(2)Kevin W.
This was the biggest pizza I ever had. The flavor was outstanding. 42 inches of heaven.
(5)Mark D.
This pizza joint was a great find. We decided on a carry out order for a family of six people. We ordered two pizzas (which is what we normally order at home from perhaps Pizza Hut). Well, when we walked into the establishment, we found the lines to be long and the place packed with people. Obviously a good pizza place. We got our order paid for rather quick. We were quoted a 45 minute wait but we had our pizzas in about 25 minutes. We were shocked at the size of the pizza!! One pizza would have filled our family of six perfectly fine. We finished one pizza and had an extort second pizza left for left overs!! Delicious pizza but be careful of the size and how much you are asking for. We got the 20 inch not thinking about how much that would be! Great pizza! Highly recommended and would go back the next time in town!
(5)Gary V.
This is somewhere that everyone (whether visiting or living in San Antonio) must go at least once. The pizzas are enormous (if ordered that way) but surprisingly great tasting despite the size. Slices range from normal sizes up to 42"!!! Great for families or just hanging out watching sports.
(5)Brian P.
Long waits but worth the trip the 42 inch pizza is very tasty and huge for a big Group. The wings are also good.
(4)Bill H.
Here is a tip to beating those long wait times you hear about so much. Call ahead and ask what time does it start to get busy. We called and were told that around 5pm it slows down and then picks back up again. We showed up at 4:30 and did have a 20 minute wait. We were, however, seated quickly and had our pizza out before we were ready for another round of drinks. Secondly, if you think you are going to get the 42inch, it doesn't compare to the 62 inch pizza. Yes. Five feet two inches of baked pie goodness. Hope your party is hungry. One more thing, the margaritas are very tasty. Enjoy.
(5)Tyler R.
Yeah this place is known for being on Travel Channel's "Man v. Food" and its ludicrously large pizza. Its a great draw to bring in patrons I'm sure and it had a bunch of people out of my group jumping at the chance try it out. So I reluctantly went along not expecting much more than average food and a bunch of tourists with cameras waiting for their 42" pepperoni pizza. Well it was ridiculously crowded... but after the wait I'd have to say the pizza was well worth it. They really do make great NY style pizza. To top that off the owner himself was there and came out to check on every table (and there are a lot) and was really social. It goes a long way with me when people take pride in their business and make an effort to ensure people are satisfied.
(4)James R.
You pretty much pay for alright tasting pizza that is the size of a table. I've been here more than a few times for various reasons: friends going away party, birthday, general hanging out and to obviously show the huge pizzas off. Each time has had some ridiculous setback though. As everyone knows, if you go, expect a wait. I like to tell people if they plan on going, eat a light meal or snack on something an hour or two before you go. The crowd depends on the hour you go, early day is families and a younger hip crowd. The later you go, and you catch the frat guys and guys who are either getting off work or a typical get together. There will also occasionally be rabid packs of teenagers yelling their heads off. On that note, think LOUD bar. You'll mostly be yelling across the table. The food is alright, nothing amazing or groundbreaking, its just big pizza... that you will end up taking a Facebook photo of and showing all your friends. Ahem. Anyway. Honestly, it could be a lot worse and a lot better depending on your mood. If your in the mood for a rowdy good time, this is definitely a place you will want to check out, or if your having a get together with your buddies or just want a place to hang on a week night. If your looking for quality pizza and a relaxing atmosphere, this ain't it. Why the Three Stars? Remember those separate setbacks I mentioned? -The restroom smelled like pot and had vomit in one of the stalls. -The "Waitress" who brought our pizza kept coming by and flirting with the guys at our table. It got old very fast and we were trying to actually catch up and eat. - A fight nearly broke out at one table. - My party and a few others were getting snubbed in the wait order. It was kinda sad, we were joking about it while waiting to get seated. As much hate as it sounds like I'm giving this place, it is actually alright pizza and I'll probably end up back there anyhow. Not my preference, but it'll do.
(3)Claudia V.
We bought the 42" and couldn't believe what we were looking at. However, it was average tasting nothing really special. The service was great though! And the bartenders were a lot of fun!
(3)Ceslie G.
Best pizza and wings ever!! Were from houston so every time we visit we always get wings and pizza from Big Lou's Deff recommend
(5)Michelle M.
Pizza is great, just remember the place will be dark and loud and BUSY!
(4)KELLY W.
In this case bigger is better. Have been here half dozen times with our friends from Seguin. Always consistent. Never a bad meal. Get there EARLY!!!
(5)Ted P.
Had the 42" pizza, 11 people couldn't eat it but that didn't stop us from trying. Don't be deterred by the wait in line, you will definitely enjoy the experience.
(5)Kevin C.
A lot of people say good things come in small packages and I am going to have to agree on this one. Yeah, getting a gigantic pizza is 'effing sweet' but once you are midway through your third bite or so you are going to think 'why did I drive this far out of my way just for a couple good photo ops?' The pizza is middle of the road-- honestly Costco makes a (albeit marginally) better pizza and the drive to get here makes you worried you will be in a Texas remake of the movie Deliverance. If you have friends visiting and you want to say 'everything is bigger in Texas hur dur dur' go here. If you want good pizza, skip the drive
(2)Carmen L.
This place was awesome. I could see why there is a line. But the pizza hit the spot. Do glad we made the trek out of downtown S.A. we will be back!!
(5)Trent R.
You can't go to Big Lou's pizza and NOT order the 42" pizza. I got the super, and it was a really good thin crust pizza. Only trouble is that it's difficult to eat with your hands- had to fall back to the fork/knife. Went with 6 friends and we still had plenty of left overs.
(4)Mike E.
Big Lou's Pizza was featured on Man vs. Food. Big Lou's is famous for their huge pizzas. They are also famous for their Bbq Briscuit Pizza which is what I went with because I was by myself. The Bbq Briscuit Pizza at Big Lou's is phenominal and one of the best pizza's that I have ever had. It has a perfect bbq taste that isn't overdone, and is topped with tender and tasty briscuit. This place is very popular. I went in on a Thursday evening around 5pm and had to wait about half an hour for my pie. Anytime that you run into one of the best pizza's that you've ever had, the place deserves five stars.
(5)Diane D.
We went here because it was touted as one of the best pizzas by Travel Channel, and was featured on Man v. Food. There's a long line. It was amazing to see a Sheriff as part of the security here. I asked the cashier, and they said people can get rowdy here. That didn't happen when I went there though. Since there's only 2 of us and we're visiting SA, we just settled for the BBQ Brisket Pizza and garlic bread. We wanted to get the big pizza, or ask for a piece from the parties who order to ginormous pizza, but didn't had the guts to ask somebody. But I swear, that is the biggest pizza I've seen in my life. It must be a good workout carrying that thing. Anyway, so for the BBQ brisket pizza, it was alright. I wasn't really blown away, It's a good concept, but with okay execution. The garlic bread is good though.
(3)James M.
Had to try after hearing and seeing great reviews. Pizza was ok...not spectacular, but decent.
(3)Eugene L.
I don't come to Big Lou's very often and there's a good reason for that. It gets super packed thanks to Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel. The prices are also really high. And I strongly dislike their ordering system. OK make that three reasons. But a lot has changed since I've last dined here. It's in a new location however when I came here there was a long ass line and a police officer had to keep the peace and made sure nobody cut in line or worse. So I had to wait a while but lucked out when the officer directed me to one of the cashiers that had nobody standing in line. One good thing I noticed was that Big Lou's sells Mexican coke but I decided on a frozen margarita instead. Since I've had pizza here I chose lasagna w/ breadsticks and a side salad, Italian dressing on the side. After I ordered I was led to my table where I sat near two families ordering the infamous 42'' pizza. Just a little reminder: be careful and not to bump into any waiters/waitresses carrying the huge pizza to a table. Not that I have (knock on wood)! Minutes later a waiter brought my margarita to my table. I looked at my receipt and noticed it was served in a 20 inch glass! Whoa now that is big! Too big if you ask me because I wasn't able to finish the whole thing. There was about 1/4 left by the time I chose to leave and I was already buzzed when I drank half of it because it was really strong. My lasagna dinner arrived with the salad and breadsticks. The salad was made to my liking with the dressing on the side which wasn't bad at all. I couldn't say the same about the hard, crusty, chewy and bland breadsticks though. And the lasagna was also a let down. It seemed reheated in a microwave instead of fresh. Hell I had frozen lasagna from HEB that was better than what Big Lou's served! So yeah Big Lou's failed to deliver with the lasagna. My dessert, strawberry cheesecake, arrived and it was pretty good. First time I dined here was on a rainy March day in 2007 I ordered a pepperoni pizza and it was so damn greasy all the cheese fell off and the crust was real bland and breadlike. I almost decided not to come back until I saw the Man vs. Food episode where he ate the brisket pizza. So the 2nd time I ate at Big Lou's I ordered the 12'' brisket pizza and was quite impressed which was weird because I thought I wouldn't like BBQ brisket on a pizza. Maybe I'll order a sub next time. I would suggest a second Big Lou's pizza location be built to handle the enormous crowds since relocating to a larger space didn't really seem to help much.
(3)April M.
I love this place! since the pizza is so big they could easily skimp on the quality - but its honestly some of the best pizza in San Antonio. I took off one star only because after you order it can take over an hour to get your pizza, which is a reallllly long time if you ask me.
(4)Barbara S.
20' pizza defiantly fed my family of 6, but its not the best pizza. Very limited seating. Not what I expected. Server was very passive. The reason I gave it 2 stars is because I didn't get sick like I do from Pizza Hut so that's a BIG plus, but would never visit here again unless someone pd the outrageous bill. Over priced pizza.
(2)Samantha R.
Wow!! The pizza was huge. I had my going away lunch here with 5 other people and we ordered the 37"....let's just say it was more than enough. I had two slices but definitely should've stopped at 1, so make sure when you're ordering that you only average about a slice or two per person. Other than the pizza I was pleasantly surprised by the wings. They are probably the best wings I've had...EVER. We ordered half hot and half mild and they were both equally delicious. I'll definitely be coming back here, probably not going to order one of the larger pizzas but an average size and some wings. p.s. they do have tv's and a full bar to watch sporting events if interested!
(4)Justin N.
The food was really good. Portion size is fantastic for the price. We got the BBQ brisket pizza which was pretty good. Not amazing, but good. The brisket on the pizza was tender but wish there had been more of it. The pizza wasn't too greasy and the size is actually bigger than what it was supposed to be. The chocolate cannoli was great and a nice treat after all that pizza. Staff was friendly and attentive and environment was fitting for the whole family. I would definitely recommend going.
(3)Melia R.
I go to Big Lou's kinda a lot lately. I've just had regular pizzas and [crispy] pizza wraps (with Blue Moon, of course).... until last night. BRISKET PIZZA, y'all. Just got a 10" to try it out and.....well, I'll get a 10" when I go. It's like a delicious brisket sandwich on a pizza. It's served with pickles!!!! I'm still amazed at how well it worked. I recommend at least a taste of this if you're checking out Big Lou's. The calzones, btw, are also great. Giant (normal appetites should split one), and they put some Italian blend on the dough before the fillings that just kicks it up a notch. I tasted one with Italian sausage last night and my tongue was delighted. The sausage tastes fresh! It's the good, crumbly stuff! Not that chewy stuff or the link type. Also....saw the house next door to Big Lou's is finally demolished....which means moves are being made for expansion -- more tables and more parking on the way!
(5)Cary S.
The good: the 42" pizza is mind-boggling and it's incredibly impressive it's cooked all the way through. The meh: it's novelty pizza, there's nothing really unusual or unique about the pizzas themselves. Even the BBQ brisket pizza is just okay, they'd be better off if the shaved or chopped the brisket into smaller pieces instead of chunks so you could get some in every bite. The bad: you're greeted at the door by a San Antonio police officer who also serves to direct traffic to the ordering counters. The girl behind the counter wasn't very friendly and she said we needed to make reservations a month in advance. They automatically add 15% gratuity to your check (even if it's just two people) when you order even though you wait in line to order, have to make a separate trip to the bar to get drinks there, and provide no table-side service other than dropping off your food.

As the San Antonio Riverwalk is a pleasant little canal in an otherwise vast desert, so too, is Big Lou's Pizza an outstanding pizza place in the void of pizzerias in Texas. That's not to knock Texas. They do many things well in Texas - steak, brisket, ribs. But admit it, when you think pizza, you don't initially think of the Lone Star State. First, Big Lou's is known for the large pies that are available. "Ever'thin's bigger in Texas," or so they say, and at Big Lou's that also applies to the pizza. After a confernce in downtown San Antonio, my group decided we would check out this place which was featured on Man v. Food. Having not seen that particular episode, I was not fully prepared to understand just how big it is when one orders a 42" pizza. Wow. I mean, wow. Just look at the pictures here on Yelp. I thought one would be plenty for our party of 17, but the folks I was travelling with ordered two, then when the initial act of gluttony was not enough, opted for a third. Our party was sitting at two adjoining tables to make sure we had enough room. Once the pizza was delivered the first thing I noticed was everyone smilng. The second thing I notcied was everyone in the party reached for their phones to document the size of the pie and post to whatever social media site they were currently using. But the million dollar question is: How did it taste? I am absolutely amazed to say that Big Lou's delivered as much quality as they delivered in quantity. It doesn't make sense. Something that big shouldn't be so good. Imagine going to the World's Biggest Ball of Yarn. You go there to see it (actually, I hope not!) and check it off the list. You wouldn't expect anything else. This was like seeing a NYC-caliber 4th of July fireworks display at the Biggest Ball of Yarn, and being fed really awesome pizza while you're there. The staff were wonderful. The bartender offered to let me charge my phone behind the bar when she overheard me tell an associate my phone was dying. The family who owns the place came out and spoke to us like regulars, even though we were only in town for the week. Lou's son even took the time to show me pictures in his phone of some new aspects he was looking to incorporate into his business. Very friendly and professional all around. And surprisingly to me, this was the only place in San Antonio where I found Negra Modelo on tap. I cannot adequately describe how much I enjoyed it, and I will make it my first stop next time I am in San Antonio, in spite of the $32.00 cab ride from downtown. Staff: 5/5 Stars Quality: 5/5 Stars Quantity: 42/5 Stars
(5)Ivan S.
Long wait sucks! But xlarge drinks and very good pizza! They serve thin crust pizza! Plus you can order 42" pizza that could feed a family!
(4)Sam B.
Service and wait time is terrible (like two hours from order line to food on the table wait time and the "waiter" simply drops off the pre-ordered food - there is no refill service or anything like that), but the huge pizza was a special and fun experience that made it worth it. Wouldn't go there for a random meal though
(3)Vivian L.
Late review... Came here two summers ago with some visiting family, and had to wait a good while to get a seat (we had about 15 people, so its OK). Big Lou's is honestly just regular pizza...the only thing thats awesome is that it's HUGE. I could only have one slice and I had felt I ate a 3 course meal.
(3)Michael M.
I went to Big Lou's on vacation at the end of 2011. This place is bigger than I thought it would be. I guess that rings true for everything a Big Lou's. While there several of the giant pizzas were delivered to table. Kinda a site to see. Unfortunately for me there was only 2 of us. Would not have even put a dent in that pizza. We ordered the cheese bread and the BBQ pizza. I will say this is the best BBQ pizza I have ever had. Granted I have only had BBQ pizza at a few places. The service at Lou's was also very friendly. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone in San Antonio or traveling to San Antonio. It is worth going out of your way.
(4)Jim T.
On the Eastside!!! I love taking my friends and visitors to BL's!!! Staff is great.. Pizza wonderful... and the environment great!! Unusual Pizza plates to eat off... Going back again and again... My Pizza house.. Big Lou's!!!
(5)Gary K.
Sunday was such a nice day my foolish buds and I decided to take a Foolish Behavior Tour to San Antonio to eat at Big Lou's and order the 42 inch pizza, we also included the Toilet Seat Museum and the worlds biggest cowboy boots on our foolish tour. Two more reviews coming. See my pics for relative size comparison. One of our foolish team saw this pizza on the Man vs. Food program. Big Lou's was a great place, we entered and the order line was only 4 people deep so it did not take long to order our 42 inch pizza, we ordered it with one half having beef, tomato and onion, the other half had pepperoni, mushrooms and green peppers. The signs told us we could have up to a two hour wait if the restaurant was very busy. It was busy but we only had to wait about five minutes to get a table. Our wait time for the pizza was 50 minutes, not bad when you are expecting two hours. The pizza was coming, jeepers, superman bobble heads were swaying, people were sliding aside and the giant round monster arrived. It took up the whole table; yikes one slice took more than two plates to sit on. We dug in with the intent of eating it all. Needless to say we failed but we did eat 50% of it. Now how was the pizza itself on taste, a little better than say a Pizza Hut, it was good. The service was outstanding and the interior was greatly decorated with various memorabilia and pictures which were of interest to read and view while you wait for your food. They do a good business because the parking lot was full and all tales were full and a waiting line the entire time we were there. You cannot order the 42 inch pizza for take home but you can order the 37 inch pizza for take home but they charge you $5 for the box. Overall we enjoyed our experience here. Would I (we) go back? If it was in Austin it would be a yes but we would order a much smaller pizza. Since it is in San Antonio we most likely would not.
(3)Carlos F.
yes only 2 stars idk why ppl say this was the best pizza ever!! the wings and margarita tasted better than the pizza lol i guess ppl like that its a huge pizza, taste wise idk its just waaaaay to thin, idk other than the size nothing stands out about the pizza, we tried the 37" pizza. honestly i would go back to big lou's the wings are good i had the Tabasco wings lol and the margaritas were awesome!! but maybe i try somethings else food wise lol
(2)Genefe D.
Sorry folks but Big Lou's wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Here's the thing I LOVE PIZZA!! I'm always looking for new places to try to add to broaden my pizza eating. I too saw Big Lou's on Man VS Food and immediately knew I had to go and check it out. My friend and I had been talking about going and we finally got the chance to go. It was Sunday evening and we were able to walk in, order and get seated. When we sat down our server came to say hi and asked if we needed any drinks. We ordered a pitcher of beer which we thought would be easy enough but waited way too long for it. I finally flagged him down to ask where our pitcher was and he clearly forgot about our beer. As we continued to wait I saw food being run out to other tables and was getting excited because everything looked great and smelled delicious! Of course the highlight was seeing the huge 42 inch pizzas coming out to groups of friends and families. Most of the tables that ordered these giant pizzas were taking the rest of the pizza to go because they just couldn't tackle the huge pizza monster covering their table. Our normal size pizza finally came and it looked delicious. We ordered a pizza with sausage, pepperoni and mushroom. As I began to eat I was quickly disappointed by the crust. I love a good pizza that has some crunch but still chewy. As I was eating my slice I kept thinking how soggy the pizza was. When I got the the end of my slice and ate the crust it self was good. I wish the whole slice was good as the crust by it self. The cheese and toppings were good. It got to a point where I was just picking the cheese and toppings off. Pizza was mediocre and the service was awful. I really wanted to like the place but It just isn't wasn't doing it for me. I'm still not sure if I will come back to this place. I might come back if I'm going with a group of people and we choose to tackle the 42 inch pizza. It would be fun just to see how much we could eat of the pizza. Other than that I have other favorite pizza places that I can go to that aren't so far away. Neighborhood isn't the best either so it wouldn't be on the top of my list for a night out for pizza and beer.
(2)Ken M.
Simply the BEST pizza in San Antonio. It took us over a year of exploration to find it and we're glad we did. Even though it's a 30 minute drive one-way to get here, we come back every Friday night, it's that good!
(5)Greta J.
Took my daughter and three grand kids! Long wait but it was worth it! Got the 37 inch! Too much for six of us! Yummy garlic flavor in sauce! Will be back!
(5)Chiqui B.
Remove the giant pizza sizes and you have mediocre Pizza Classics grade food. We had the famous bbq pizza, and a small spaghetti with (one) meatball. The meatball was the size of my fist, but basically it was nothing better than what you find at Cici's. The building's interior does not match the exterior. It looks like they took an old house and built around it. We were seated in a back corner in one of the other rooms of the building and were wondering "why?" Did we look like a couple of hooligans? There was one other couple next to our table and I heard them complaining about their buffalo wings not being spicy. I'm glad we didn't order those. I can see why this place has become so successful and why families love it. I feel that the quality of the food suffers in exchange for the humongous pizza gimmick. Sadly, we left disappointed in that Adam Richmond steered us wrong this time.... We immediately went to Big Lou's Burgers and BBQ after this and had a much better experience.

OMFG

Would give five stars but am too stuffed to think! The wait actually wasn't too bad, about 40 minutes from getting in line to food and so worth it! The garlic bread was crispy and not heavy on the bread or garlic, the marinara for dipping was definitely homemade and just perfect, the pizza? Well I say it's just about the best I've ever had! We ordered a 20" for three of us and barely ate two slices each they were that big! The sausage & pepperoni usually make pizza really greasy but there was hardly Any grease on this. The crust was thin & crispy on the bottom all the way to the middle and thick on the edges, just like pizza should be. Big Lou's has my vote for the best pizza in San Antonio! Have been back several times since I started this review and have loved it every time. Get a 42" if you have a big group! We've had 9 people and couldn't finish it! It's awesome leftover too!
(4)Jennifer F.
This was my first time here and I have to say I'm as impressed as I expected I'd be!! I had pieces of the Big Lou's 42" cheese pizza and a small 12" sausage pizza. Both were amazing!!! The cheese pizza was incredibly cheesy and the sauce was incredibly flavorful!! It tasted so much better than any other sauce from any other pizza I've ever had! Very zesty and you could taste the garlic, tomato and italian spices :9 The sausage was also fantastic! Big chunks, and very well seasoned! I couldn't help but dig in selfishly to the pizza I was supposed to be sharing! LOL! We went on a Thursday night around 7:30p for a birthday (my boyfriend's cousin's little boy turned the big 1-2!) The party ordered the pizza at 7 and got it before we got there! Maybe Thursday nights are the nights to go on? Not to mention they were featuring Modelo beer that night -- free beer!! Well, one pint. But still! AND we were served by lovely Modelo ladies!! I can't wait to come back again! Next time I plan on bringing an army of friends to tackle the massive 64"!!!!! ***BTW -- don't be scared off by their 4 $$$$. Their largest pizzas are over $60, but their smaller ones (10", 12", 14" 16") are very reasonably priced.

Just wanted to write a public update letting everyone know that the owner of Big Lou's contacted me about my negative review. After further highlighting the areas with which I was dissatisfied, he replied back to me and verbally insulted me for not changing my mind and not confronting him in person with my complaints (sorry thats hard to do when family members are getting sick to their stomachs from the food). Yelp gives us a public forum where we can share our unfiltered opinions about businesses and the fact that the owner of this place used this medium to try and brow beat me into submission is ludicrous, insulting and ridiculous. As if I didnt have any other good reasons not to go back to Big Lou's, I now have one more. Its clear that the customer service skills I saw lacking during my experience there start at the top.

Able to feed 20 people Able to lay wider than a lil person Able to give a major tummy ache It's the 42'' pizza from Big Lou's. Before it arrived, we were placing bets. Mom says 1slice, maybe 2. My aunt says 1 slice. Was I just hearing polite minimalist numbers? Wasn't sure... With out bets made, we impatiently dwindled our fingers for the food to arrive; we had skipped breakfast in order to leave room for this bad boy. I read the disclaimer the collassoal pie would take 1-2 hours to make. My stomach grumbled in disbelief. I couldn't understand why, so I reported back with a manager and a cashier. The manager explained it takes 1 hour to apply all the toppings by hand. The pizza has 15lbs in cheese alone! You can get chest pain from just reading that fact. The manager and staff member walked over with the huge pizza in tow. Talk about the wow factor when that pizza arrived. Stares and glances were soon followed by "oooos" "aahhhhhs" and "wow" as the giant pizza is delivered. My how big is the crust is My how much cheese there is My how can three hands alone carry a single slice. So how does one eat a pizza 21 inches long? Well, you could fold it up from tip to crust, croissant style. You could chop it with a knife down the middle One thing is for sure, you can't eat it with 2 hands alone. Flavor was great, really good pizza dough. The bets we had placed were right on the money. After one slice my mother and aunt were full, in a vain effort to keep eating from the magnificent ginormous pie I tried to eat a second slice. Check out the photo, put a paper plate in the center for perspective. ;o) yelp.com/biz_photos/uFon… I waved my white napkin in defeat soon after. We asked politely for to go boxes and made our way out the restaurant. The 42'' will be my favorite pizza in San Antonio for months to come.

The 42 inch pizza is a seriously big ass pizza. Quality isn't bad, but I wouldn't drive 10 miles out of my way to get a pizza there again. Definitely worth stopping in to see the huge pizza though.
(4)Eileen G.
Come here for the sheer size of these pizzas... But otherwise, the wait is ridiculous.
(4)Chad S.
Don't waste your time. Line out the door and all the locals let people cut in line. Never going back!

After learning about Big Lou's solid reputation for a mean pie from Yelp, I've been putting off visiting until today. I probably shouldn't have put if off for so long, because now that they've been featured on the Travel Channel's Man v. Food, the place is overflowing with people looking to obtain a comically large pizza. I had to wait fifty minutes for my modest 12" pie, and during my wait, I chatted up the bartender. Business is booming so much now with folks that have caught the recent episode on TV, but it's almost to the detriment of the place - there's folks lining up before opening waiting to catch a slice, and they're struggling to keep up with demand. My pizza was one adorned with Canadian bacon, green olives (an often under-utilized pizza topping compared to their bland black cousins), and garlic. The garlic is a definite must for all future purchases, but I take issue with the amount of cheese used - the layer of cheese on my pizza was equal to if not surpassing the thickness of the crust, making for an unbalanced flavor profile. It was a bit salty, too, but when you have green olives and Canadian bacon, you have no choice but to point the finger at yourself for that error. I was not terribly impressed by the toppings, but the crust and the sauce were both notably sweet and worth the price of admission alone. I think they used a bit too much dough for my pizza, as the pie's diameter exceeded the size of the box and was climbing up the sides. It provided a very nice chew, and I appreciate the extra food, but it was a bit too much for the size of pizza I ordered. The crust was thin, but not very crispy, again probably due to the amount of cheese and also the rate at which they have to be pushing these pizzas out the door to meet demand. I would certainly return to Big Lou's, but not before I phone ahead and place my order beforehand. They don't have a website, so I've uploaded part of their takeout menu so you don't have to wait like I did.

My mom was the one who told me about this place and was like we should go eat here! I was like mmm no way 4 people?! Let's wait till the family get's here then we can go... We did all 15 of us taking up two tables and ordered the biggest pizza that served 15-18. Half supreme and half Vegetarian. The pizza slice is as big as your face and I had to roll mine up into a sandwich to eat it. I managed to do 1 1/2 slice haha the pizza was pretty good could... I mean there is 5lbs of cheese on it. They also have a full bar in the corner to wash down all that grease. Yum!
(4)Brittany F.
LOVED IT! Their pizza is awesome! Thin crust, good sauce and lots of cheese! Plan on waiting a while, they can get really packed!
(4)Lucas B.
I saw things here I've never seen before. You can see all the pics of t he pizza - but have you seen a Marga-veca? That's what we called these because the waiter didn't have a name for them. Supposedly they didn't regularly make them, but one table ordered them and then everyone else did. Several table were drinking these - see pic. The pizza was good and obviously in abundance. I enjoyed the sauce, most. The crust is thin and a little soggy for my taste. The white pizza was overly buttery and heavy. It was pretty remarkable watching people fold uneaten pizza into boxes, because that was the only way it would fit. Big Lou's is definitely worth a visit, if even just for the spectacle, but the food and drinks are great too.

It is what it is. The home of the big 42" pizza. Make sure to wear your stretchy pants and bring an army of friends, 'cuz this sucker ain't goin' down easy. The 42" pizza is actually more than just a novelty. It is decent. The proportions of the crust to cheese to toppings are appropriate. I was surprised that the pizza actually tasted better than I expected, though the crust was a little too buttery and soggy for my taste. Our large 42"-er was topped with pepperoni on one side and veggies (mushroom, black olive, bell pepper, and onions) on the other. The slices are so long that folding them in half, New York style, is next to impossible. Therefore, I recommend eating it off of two plates in as messy a fashion as you possibly can. Don't worry, no one's looking in this joint. Big Lou's is very laid back and family friendly. There are multiple rooms to accommodate big parties and big families, of which there are no shortage of in San Antonio on both counts. Multiple beers on tap, in bottles, and a full bar will keep the thirst at bay. I would like to return for a more manageable pizza with different toppings to really find out what Big Lou's is all about. The glitz and glamor of the 42" will only go so far...
(3)Rod B.
Their wings are another story. They were good, but not as good as Big Slice's, but 12 for $8? U got yourselves a regular for wings. Chatman's got some competition in the chicken category though their tenders r muthafuckin delicious and cost cheaper than Chicken Express and Bush's.
(4)James F.
Met my Young Marines unit here after our Drill to congregate a bit on a Sunday afternoon. My wife told me about this place and that it had been on the FoodNetwork. I like to visit places that have been on TV to compare what was said about the places with my own opinion; this one was pretty decent. I was lucky I arrived a little late since this place was super-packed and the wait would've been around an hour for a table. we ordered the biggest pie available. One of the slices was the size of my son-literally! It had a thin crust and flapped even when folded in half so expect some delicious messiness when you have toppings. The wait staff was very friendly, but should've been around a little more often with drinks. Overall, it was a decent experience, they had a good pie and a long wait.
(4)Julie K.
Pizza was amazing!! 20" fed three adults dinner and late night. $1 draft, can't beat that. Victoria was awesome. Took great care of us.
(5)Jo C.
Had better...it's a cool place to go to with a group/gang of friends but not necessarily because the food is great...moreso to just experience the 42' and the atmosphere isn't bad either. The pizza was bland, greasy, and not so much warm.
(2)Matt R.
Great pizza! very busy pizza place but worth the wait. They handle the busyness very well, to a science actually I was impressed. very good crust, sauce had great flavor and a fair amount of cheese. Just good pizza worth the smaill drive out of the way of I - 10 if you are traveling through.
(4)Gregg J.
pizza is not a gimmick if you've been to NY- here in SA it is needed to set them apart since no one can make pizza here. Anybody can make BIG things.... stop being a poseur , learn how to make sauce and throw dough...
(2)Malcom T.
This place has grown too big! What was once a quaint little business, has grown into a beast! 2-hour waits are common. However, if you want a pizza bigger than your common table, this is the place to go.
(2)brooke b.
Came hungry, left happy. The place was packed, but we didn't wait long at all. They seated us as soon as we ordered and the food came out quick. Three of us split the 20" pepperoni, mushroom, jalapeño. There was about half of it left over, but it looks like it will be great reheated in the oven. Sauce was great and the pizza was cooked perfectly. Not too much cheese, crust was delicious. No one had a complaint. We will definitely come back again and bring enough people to order the 5" one! Great for groups with kids. Also, a lot of good Texas beer on tap. I'd post the picture of myself standing beside one of the giant pizza pans, but I can't seem to get it to load.
(5)Patrick B.
Has gotten better as time has gone on, which is nice considering that it has only become more popular. Good prices and generous toppings.
(4)Jai J.
Big Lou, I bow to your pizza greatness! No one can hold a candle to your HUGE 42".... PIZZA PIE... Lol! Check out the pic from another one of my 'lunch bunch' adventures! No deliveries or take out on this one, folks, since they don't have a box big enough to carry this freakin' thing. So if you must have it, you must bring friends and/or family and dine in... OR if you'd rather, try to challenge yourself to this monstrosity. Salads, wings, you name it. But I only come here for the pie! They do cater to groups but definitely make sure to call ahead since it's a small restaurant!
(5)Gary H.
I guarantee that you or someone in your group will say "Wow" when you see how large the pizzas are. The pizzas are seriously ginormous! I rarely visit San Antonio, but when I do, I go to Big Lou's. It's great for large groups, although the wait is at least an hour. Take out is usually quicker if you don't mind not dining in. By the time the pizza comes out, I'm sure you're famished and just want to dig your face into the pie. Your hands will get greasy, your mouth will be smothered with pizza sauce and your stomach will be bursting when you leave. Overall Big Lou's is definitely a place to visit if you're in San Antonio. The city may be small, but San Antonio sure knows how to do it big!
(4)Philip P.
Very crowded, very noisy, pizza good but pricey. Pizza is solid and good (in a floppy fold over type). Pizza crisps were good too. Pizza was very greasy, not that that is necessarily a bad thing. But it is, if that is not to your taste. But super noisy, super busy, and super loud. Might try some time if I want to get a 5 foot wide pizza, but there are far better deals and far better ambience to be found.
(3)Marcus R.
The pizza is crazy big but the flavor across pizza is the same. Very greasy! I think I used like five napkins to wipe my hands. If you're going to dine in it's a very unorganized wait. Sorry but that was the most irritating part of my experience here. Even the folks in the take out section felt the same way. I love the size and look of the pizza but my experience was not the same as my eyes saw. It's definitely worth a try for the first time experience. The staff is friendly and the met all all needs while we waited at our table. I wish they had more pepperoni and sausage. Cheese was heavy no matter what flavor of pizza you ordered. They have a nice selection of beer on tap and nice bar setup in the back. It's worth trying for the first time experience but I don't see myself coming back again.
(3)Is R.
The only thing I didn't like that you have to order and pay before you get seated , we got our "20 pizza within 15 mins after we order .. Pizza was good , the server was good ..
(4)Brittany S.
Always order a white pizza and sit at the bar and have a few while waiting. The staff seems helpful and we always enjoy our time. Specials are always on the board at the bar and altho the wait is crazy if you are waiting to eat here sometimes, cheat the system and call in an order. My fiance's and I's favorite pizza place in San Antonio. Still have a few to try but this has been the best so far.
(5)Leslie C.
Pizza IS out of the ordinary, but be prepared to wait in line...wait to order...and then wait some more --like 30 min-- for your pizza, even if it's not a big one.
(3)Veronica A.
We ordered the supreme 37" Pizza and it was the best pizza I have had in a long time. We went on a Saturday night around 10pm and we did not have a wait. The wait staff was good, dessert was okay, and our pizza came out fast. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because we had to get up and order from bar and because the place actually closed at 11pm as posted on their door not 12am as posted on yelp.
(4)Jimmy D.
It's not the best pizza, It's not the worst, but it really satisfies that pizza craving. Expect at least a 2 hr wait every time though. you know at least an hour alone just to cook it throughly, no one wants uncooked dough!!! Its the perfect place for reunions, gatherings, because the wait time lets you mingle. The staff was nice. The atmosphere is dim and kind of gross, but hey as long as the the table was sanitary. The pizza is real thin, not overwhelming with sauce, had supposedly 30lbs of cheese? Not sure but it was like super cheesy. Toppings have been more for the supposed super topping. But overall I could see myself come back if I was going with people who wanted to try. But one time is enough for me!
(3)Todd E.
Holy Pepperoni Batman! You want a big pizza? No, seriously a biiiiiiiiiiig pizza! Then come to Big Lou's! The place is like a tourist attraction. Every time I've been its been packed! The staff does a great job of managing the lines and the crowds. The big deal is the big pizzas! Really really big pizzas! But are they good? Hell yeah they're good! Love Big Lou's! They also have great beer specials! Drink up while you're waiting. Well worth the wait and the price!
(4)Marissa G.
This place is not worth going to. The staff is horrible!! They have young girls at the register who NEVER smile. It seems like they don't want to be here and can care less about their job. I mean how hard is it to smile? Not hard. I've been coming here since they first opened in a trailer and the customer service has diminished. I'm very disappointed in what this place has become. Want to know some better pizza places to try? I recommend this place all the time at the hotel I work at downtown, and I will not send one more person here. I'll be sending them to dough pizzeria. At least dough has staff that smiles. DONT GO HERE.
(1)liz h.
The beer is cool and big! Everything is bigger in Texas. I enjoy this place but it's crowded so be prepared to wait to be seated! We decided to eat outside because it would be faster. The Pizza is huge. I like a thicker crust but the experience it's fun.
(5)John D.
It is a fun enviroment for a party, food is good, bar is decent. It can get busy though and plenty of parking. It is not hard to find. I have only tried pizza and beer and left satisfied.
(4)Leanna L.
Yelp did it again. So glad we came here, it was well worth the wait. We had the pepperoni pizza wraps that were so tasty. Hot wings that were ok, not crispy enough. And a 20" pizza that was half pepperoni and pepperoni, sausage mushroom and onion. This was so heavenly it melted in your mouth and so flavorful. Our waiter Jesse was super sweet. Also had a chamoy Margarita that was the best.
(5)Dung N.
This place was featured on Man vs. Food, so I was excited to to check it out. Unfortunately, they don't take reservations and they don't deliver either. When we got there, the line was out the door and about an hour wait. I noticed a lot of families eating here and mostly large groups celebrating something special. We ordered at the counter and got seated immediately. Since we only had the 12 inch pizza and a dozen wings, our order came out pretty fast. We ordered the habanero and mild wings, but the habanero ones were not spicy at all. The only thing different from this pizza place was that a lot of garlic butter was brushed on the pizza, but other than that, it was pretty average tasting. The pizza is thin and our toppings were barely there. I think the novelty is just about the size - they even carry 62 inches now!!
(3)Jazmyne B.
Always make sure to call ahead or you'll be waiting in line for awhile to get in. The pizzas are huge so it's worth the wait. Bring out 10 people in and you'll just need one pizza. Drinks are decent, and staff could be nicer but food makes up for it. I'm a loyal customer who comes here very often. Highly recommended
(4)Rayshawn W.
Visited San Antonio for a business trip with my job and had this place at the top of my list for places to try after seeing it on Man Vs. Food. All I can say is I had a blast!!! There was a long line for ordering our pizza that went by fast and smooth. It was 4 of us so we decided to order the 2nd to largest pizza (I know, wimps lol)...while we waited, we had a few drinks and watched as other tables tried to finish their pizzas. Ours finally came and I can honestly say it was some damn good pizza. Everything tastes fresh from the sauce to the cheese to the toppings. This pizza ranks my top 5 pizzas I've eaten. Dinner then turned into a competition for how many pizzas we can eat each. With other groups joining in on the fun from other tables. I clocked out at 3 and half slices. To wrap this up...great food, great environment, good drinks, and good/fun people. I recommend this for anyone visiting the San Antonio area. Dinner 4/10/2012

Wow! So first off there was a crazy Puerto Rican lady went cra cra at the rear door... psycho....I told her to stop being scandalous. ..lol...then in the hallway towards the bar area they have pictures hanging on the wall and the kid standing next to me said, "hey look a baby roach"..... I look and sure enough there is a roach on the wall...ugh!!
(3)Dan H.
We (three of us in the party) had three side salads, garlic cheese breadsticks and a 14" pepperoni, mushroom and half jalapeno pizza on Saturday night. We called in our order and were told it would be 45 minutes, which was ok with us...The side salads were huge!! The pizza and breadsticks were really good too. The dough is light and airy and the crust has a nice crunch to it... We'll be back!
(4)Scott L.
Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday evening and Big Lou's was packed. They have two lines when you first walk in. One for take out and one for dine in, both were long. Orders are placed at the front counter. After you place your order and pay a hostess will seat you. We order a pepperoni and beef pizza, its a good pizza. Not the best that I've ever had, but much better than you can get at any pizza chain. If you are a beer drinker, they have Heineken on draft, only $1 a pint. The prices on the pizza are reasonable as well. Our waitress Sarah was great, she checked on us often and was genuinely friendly. Good Job Sarah! *A couple of small annoyances. They have several registers at the front counter, however they were not all being used as several of the cashiers were busy braiding each others hair. The other thing I found annoying were the hand written signs, that say "limit your stay to two hours", that's all fine and well (we eat and leave anyway) but they were taped on every wall, every register, the counter, along the waiting line, everywhere you look.
(4)Jayne D.
Good pizza, but tends to be very greasy, so I have to use a paper towel to soak up the excess oil, or it Upsets my stomach. But, lm sure some people lke it that way. Lines are always so long, so we are forced to limit our visits.
(3)Caitlyn S.
I heard about Big Lou's HUGE pizzas from some San Antonians, and then of course heard about all of the buzz (what up Man vs. Food!), so of course I wanted to go. I figured the pizza would be all hype and no substance, but I was proved wrong! Although this is definitely not where I would go for my typical style of deliciously unique (and vegetarian) pizza options, it was a fun enjoyable experience. The mushroom portion of our humongous pizza was great, and it was quick to be eaten. I did have to do a little napkin-soaking on the cheese portion, because it was quite greasy, but still a good piece of pizza. And I almost forgot to mention the crust! If you can stomach it, of course, after your huge slice of pizza. It's chewy and crunchy and so delicious. I'd seriously be happy with just a plate full of those crusts. Yay Big Lou's!
(4)Adam M.
Shitty Service, and Shitty Attutudes. NO Military Discounts, and they think they are a service above others. I will not return until they Honor the Military and have better service! You are not missing anything, but a Greasy Pizza!
(1)Shannon G.
Chucky Cheese style pizza served in a ginormous portion so the novelty of it makes some people think it tastes great. It doesn't. If you order one of the large pies the slices will be thin and long with a VERY soggy crust towards the center. There's isn't an good way to eat it. Not wide enough to fold in half and too long and rubbery to hold up with your hands. Also, if you just get pepperoni or something similar you'll have MANY slices with no toppings at all. Maybe about half of them so you end up with a cheese pizza. See how this is stupid and it's not possible that it's good pizza? Oh... And it was on TV on 'Man Vs Food'. So people like it even more now but nobody can figure out why. Just like the Kardashian's. When it comes to cleanliness and lighting the place seems more like a bar than a restaurant. Be happy the lights are kept dim. Not worth a visit.

Visiting San Antonio with some friends from California. We were here for PAX South 2015. Biggest pizza we've ever seen in our lives. Ever! We just had to get the brisket pizza since we were in Texas and we can't get this deliciousness back in Cali. The meat...wow! Tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The pizza is thin crust, dough is tasty and the cheeses were good too. We got cheddar and traditional. The interior is a little funky. Kind of like a Shakey's meets a mom and pop Italian restaurant. Servers are courteous, helpful and nice. They also have a good selection of beers. We tried some of the local beers and a huge margarita for, was it $7? We just remember it being quite cheap for its enormous size. We all left quite satisfied and with extra slices to spare. Too bad we can't get this stuff here in LA. Thanks Big Lou!
(4)Jonathan G.
If I could give big Lou's pizza a zero star rating I would. We were deceived from the start; from the uninformed hostess who answered the phone but not our question to the signs outside the contradicted the information that the hostess gave us. Big Lou served us 62" of disappointment. Don't wasted your time, dominos is where it's at
(1)Diane M.
Aug 2015. Party of 8. All the hype. All services had a long wait. We were told 45min wait for the Largest pizza, only Cheese. So we ordered the 20in. Simple not very tasty. We also tried the lasagna. Lots of sauce, little flavor. Everything Looked good, but had little flavor. The mixed drinks we ordered were not good either. Service was more attentive to the larger parties. good of been a bad night
(2)Greg H.
The novelty of the huge pizza was awesome. The pizza even tasted better than expected. Getting in the door on the weekend was greeted with long lines. The frustrating part was getting a table. Lots of empty tables but the restaurant lacks skills on how to coordinate the customers. Though tables were empty we were forced to stand and eventually sit outside because they can't coordinate it.
(2)John G.
Ok 5 stars for a pizza place...well hear me out. First time I came with a large group and we order the cheese pizza....nothing extraordinary probably would have gave the place 3 stars and never come back. My buddy and I at the last second decided to try the BBQ brisket pizza...what a difference that made. "Game changer" would properly fit my assessment of it. Ever since, I always come here during a trip to San Antonio. Margaritas prepped delicious adds to the experience. Thankfully they expanded it because business was always booming leaving the wait time to be dreadful. The owner was real pleasant. Always would greet us when we order the BBQ brisket and run us through the history of it being a family recipe. Check it out, order the BBQ brisket pizza, and thank me later.
(5)Stacey L.
I have heard about this, wanted to try it, Long lines, Family of 4 only had to wait about 20 mins for a table. ( when you order she says if its smaller size the wait is only 20 minute wait) so we didnt get HUGE pizza, was still fun, we did order bread sticks ( wanted them as appetizer ) they came with meal. still very good
(4)Jorge V.
Be prepared to WAIT to simply be seated. Especially on busy days like the end of the week. You will be amazed when you see the behemoth of pizzas that strut around Big Lou's. There is nothing like getting a large aluminum plate placed in front of you meant to hold a single slice. Surprisingly, Big Lou's pizza does not follow the quality over quantity rule, being so that the full pizza finds a perfect balance between both, delivering a fun and tasty experience.
(4)Calvary D.
Just a big pizza. Nothing special beside just BIG!!! Edible pizza. Good place to watch any sporting games.
(3)Amanda W.
I was in san antonio for a year because of college and i fell in love with this place. The inside seems kind of cluttered and has pretty tacky designs. The pizza though is the best ive ever head in my life. I tried the famous bbq brisket pizza and the supreme pizza. It was expensive but i was drooling over it. The crust is buttery and garlicy and the brisket is real authentic bbq brisket that melts in your mouth. I cannot stress how amazing the pizza here is and ive tried homeslice in austin where im from and i thought big lous was ten times better.
(5)Danica F.
Pretty good price for the amount they give you. Smallest size is a 10 in. You can also pay by the amount of slices total. Came here with some buddies and fell in love with the peach tea!!! Service was nice and thankfully we came at a good time. This place is usually packed for dinner so come before that.
(3)Robert C.
Big Lous Pizza is a perfect place for family, guys or girls night out. The pizza is good not great but worth bringing family from out of town to show them a god time. If you come 4-6 you'll wait forever, but of you arrive after 10 there'll be no wait. Scenery 9/10. Pizza 7/10.
(4)Matthew B.
Heard about this place for awhile. Obvious since the TV spot they had people can't shut up about it. We went on a Thursday evening around 6. We were surprised at the amount of staff they had on for the amount of customers that were there. I was a little put off by the ordering system. You order at a register then sit and wait to be seated. Took 10 minutes to seat us even though there were tables and staff everywhere. But no big deal. We ordered a salad, a small pizza for the kid, and a calzone for us. Salad came out first. Nothing spectacular about it. My only problem was it looked like they gave us blue cheese dipping sauce for wings and not salad dressing. The calzone was good. Again nothing spectacular. Good sauce and flavors. The pizza was...good. And that's all it is. It's good pizza, not amazing. They have all manner of awards and such on the walls and I respect that. However it failed to knock my socks off Also while we were eating, some of the staff was walking around with scrapers, scraping gunk off the floor while we and other customers were eating. This really seems like an after hours chore and not something you do during service.
(3)Shiloh N.
Just left Big Lou's and am so extremely happy! Great food, and despite being absolutely packed, great and prompt service! The pizza obviously is great but don't let yourself miss out on the wings! They were very light and crispy. I could have eaten a whole dozen myself.
(5)Travis W.
The pizza is crazy big but I did not find it to be special, especially considering the amount of time you have to wait to get it. Also the pizza was soggy and doughy in the center.
(2)Jack R.
If you ever have a large starving group or get together this is the place to go! You might have to wait for some time depending on what you ordered but it is all worth it at the end of the day!
(5)Paul C.
Better atmosphere I side than I expected. Nicer that I expected judging from the outside. Very clean. Loved the neons! Gigantic pizzas. Friendly staff. Pizza is awesome. Loved the brisket pizza
(5)MorningDew C.
The food is great!! It never disappoints. The wait, not so much. Anticipate a good 30min+ wait.
(4)Jeanie M.
Average pizza. Being from NYC I had high expectations... the sauce/cheese flavor was pretty good, but the crust was very soggy. I couldn't even lift the slice without it falling apart. I had to roll it up and eat it with a fork and knife. Enough said. The decent, but less than stellar pizza is the only reason I didn't give this place 1 star, because everything else was awful. Terrible service, disgusting bathrooms and if you go during busy hours it's NOT worth the 2-3 hour wait.
(2)Wayne N.
42 inch pizza. And that's not even the largest size they offer. 6 guys 22-23 year old guys. Even that wasn't enough to slay this circular monstrosity. To be honest I was expecting really bad pizza, since novelties like this are more for the wow factor rather than the taste, but surprisingly the pizza was pretty good. Good chunks of sausage, fresh cheese and a zippy tomato sauce all balance nicely. The garlic butter on the crust is great when its crisp. My only complaint is the flaccidness of the crust where all the toppings are: hard enough to hold the massive slice already, so why make it harder than it needs to be? I guess you can be dignified and use the knife and fork provided, but cmon its pizza. Get here early: the line and consequent wait explodes quickly at 12.
(4)Mandy S.
I would definitely give this place a 4 star had it not been for the terrible service. I went to Big Lous for dinner this past week in a party of 20+. It's difficult to get everyone to arrive at the same because of traffic. Unfortunately they will not seat a party until everyone arrives and to make things worse they will not start making pizza until everyone is seated... The 42' takes about 45-60mins to cook. Since our entire party didn't arrive at the same time the people that arrived first decided to sit and order. When the rest of the party came there was a open table next to us but they would not let us have the table so all of us could sit together ( even though there were open tables all over the restaurant)!! So annoying. Other than that I was skeptical about a 42" pizza tasting good. The pizza was awesome! There's a perfect ratio of cheese to pizza dough and a yummy hint of garlic throughout to give just plain cheese pizza additional flavor. I would go back for the novelty of a huge pizza but I would arrive early and make sure the entire party shows up at the same time to prevent extra waiting time.

Hey Big Lou, you are in San Antonio, it is over 100 degrees outside and you want people to wait 45 minutes outside without their drinks to get a table!!! You are out of your mind, no one has food worth that
(1)Kayla M.
The pizza is alright, the wings are better, the beer is nice & cold..sooo i'll give it a 3!

All I can say is WOW! It lives up to all its hope, reviews, various TV shows and so on and on. Absolutely one of the best pizzas I've ever had... Even out of those South Brooklyn NYC pizza joints that I've craved since working in NYC's south Brooklyn and Queens Burros! Oh, they are very reasonably priced as well with all the endless variety of the numerous topping. The crust has that uniquely crafted crust taste to what I'd say is just a tad bit thinner than traditional NYC thin crust pizza but yet not as thick as the well known hand-tossed. It was cooked to perfection without being "burnt"... And just down right delicious. My favorite is the in house smoked BBQ brisket pizza but the "super topping" pizza and pepperoni / sausage were both absolutely awesome as well! Can't wait to come back! HIGHLY recommend this stop if you like... Or don't like pizza, they just might make you a pizza lover!

Long wait but absolutely worth it. Service is good and you can drink in line. Pizza is surprisingly good and the cheese sticks are amazing.
(4)Steban D.
Yep it's a big ol pizza pie. If you are looking to feed a small army this is the place for you. When you walk in you order your pie first then you wait for them to seat you. Took us a little bit to figure it out since it was our first time there. Went to bar to grab a beer while we wait...no bartender. Thought it was self serve bar Lol..bartender finally showed up and had decent prices on beers. Wait for table wasn't as long as they told us so that was a win. Waiter came to table and advised pizza was coming out and we needed to clear room. Pizza came out and was definitely bigger than I expected. Pizza slices were skinny but really long. Trying to pick up the pizza was a challenge because it was soggy. To skinny to fold the slice and to long to pick up with out it folding over like a wet noodle. Most people were eating their slices with a knife and fork which I feel is sacrilegious to the pizza gods. I felt the sauce was a little sweet but still good. All in all pizza was tasty, the ingredients were good, and the pizza was very cheesy. The place is as advertised...a giant pie with huge slices longer than a baby. Was it cool to eat at a place that was on the Food Network...yea of course it was. Was it worth the drive from Austin to San Antonio...eh it was a cool experience but better places closer to home.
(3)Louis B.
This place came highly recommended to us to visit. Pizza was nothing really special. Seems like a LOT of kids working there. Apparently there must be a lot of walk-outs (people who eat, then run out before paying.) So you have you have to order as you come in and pay before seating yourself. Then, a "server" comes to your table to bring you your food. After he brought the food I had to look for him twice to get get drink refills or to-go boxes etc.. Then, went to the register to get change for a $10, to leave an unearned tip for our server and the cashier seemed really miffed that I would ask for such a thing. Wow. Even though there are several partitioned "rooms" it was very noisy.
(2)Michelle C.
Should really be a 4.5 rating. If we lived here we would return again without hesitation! Definitely worth a try. Hubs saw this place Man versus Food lol and it did not disappoint. .... stop reading and go get some pizza :)
(4)Kenneth C.
The pizza was big as advertised. And I was salivating over the immense size of the pizza. The pizza itself was actually really good too. Really cheesy and tasty, although I wish we could get more toppings without the price skyrocketing, but it was worth it. Would come back again!
(5)Rich F.
Three stars because of the cafeteria atmosphere. The food was good, but not deserving of four or five stars. I didn't Luke the fact that we had to order first and then wait for a table -- I felt rushed to make the order. I also didn't think a 90 minute wait for the large pizza was justified, especially since there were very few people. All in all, this is just an average pizza restaurant. If you're from NY, NJ or Chicago, don't bother, you won't enjoy it.
(3)Linda H.
I really wanted to check this place out after all the big hype from Man vs Food and also from so many of my friends who talk about it. I walked in on a Early Saturday evening and was shocked by the line. Our wait for seven people was an hour and a half just to get a table. Luckily when we showed there was no line to order the pizza. So yes, you stand in line to order your pizza then you're on a wait list for seats. Also, people are standing every where waiting for tables.... We sat down, an hour and a half after we ordered our pizza, and had to wait another 25 mins for our pizza to come out. Of course we had to order the largest pizza!!! So, the pizza came and first few bites of "the works" pizza slice was pretty good! Got 1/3 of the way through and started to get full. I stopped about half way through because I couldn't take it anymore. Pizza was ok, not what everyone makes it out to be. The crust is good, but you really only get to taste the dough when you eat the crust because the dough on the actual pizza is paper thin ( that's how they cook it so fast). Not too sure if I would make the drive to eat here again...giving three stars due to the wait and complete chaos when waiting for a table.
(3)Brent B.
Pizza was ok but the place looked horrible, kids running all over the place unsupervised, one disgusting bathroom with broken toilet seats. Not sure how this place has the high ratings it has but it needs a lot of improvement. Tourists beware.
(1)Dave A.
Poor service. Our party sat at empty tables in the same room we were eventually seated in, waiting for one larger party to leave. Very unorganized staff and management. The food wasn't as remarkable as advertised.
(1)Tom C.
This is my favorite pizza in this city beyond a shadow of a doubt. The toppings are fresh. One slice equals half a pizza at most places. I've never had a bad pizza here. We have been coming since he first opened in the little place. Unlike so many places that get popular and have grown, the quality here has not diminished. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is their system when dining in. I know they are enormously busy. I realize this is a downside to their success. But for pepperoni sake get a new system of seating and ordering! Call one of those "fix my restaurant" shows or something! I'm no expert on the topic but there has to be a better way to operate. Lines criss-crossing. People ordering and getting in the way of people being seated. Yikes! The place is huge! Please seek professional help to make it where I can have your awesome pizza at your place without investing 4 hours to do it!
(4)Colin H.
Mediocre pizza at best, I wouldn't recommend this place unless you like cheap beers and crummy pizza. Service was excellent tho...so that's a positive note. It was a bit confusing as there is another restaurant owned by the same guy just a stone's throw down the road with the same design on their sign but it doesn't have the same menu. We accidentally parked in the other one and had to walk down the street. Not a huge deal but an inconvenience rather Also, yelp needs to get a location corrected on here. I submitted one but we will see if it actually gets added in! -Colin
(1)Martin T.
The brisket pizza is a must try! I love their pizzas, wings, calzones and pizza wraps! Very delicious! On occasion when the mind tricks me into a salad, this place has one of the most filling salad bowls I have ever had! I love the mozzarella shredded cheese, it really enhances this salad
(5)Edelyn C.
Great wings and the pizza was worth the wait! We ordered the biggest size and it took a while but it was def worth it!!!!
(5)Vicky A.
great tasting pizza. great margaritas. if you go on a weekend, plan on waiting 1.5 - 2 hours. we ordered the 42". my son was the only one to get through a whole slice...do not opt to sit ouside. miserably hot. they should get fans...on e seated outside you cant get moved inside without getting back on the waitlist.
(5)Jay T.
We waited 2 1/2 hours just to be seated. Once seated waited another 20mins for pizza.smh# unorganized
(2)Cody B.
Wow, I cannot express how disappointed we were in this place. We were in town for a sporting event and decided to meet my family (parents & brother) over here to check out the huge pizza. In total were were 10 people, 3 of which were under 6 yrs old. The process and layout of the place is a bit confusing because you order at the counter, but then wait again to get a table. Its not intuitive at all. Like most other reviews stated, the wait was crazy long. From the time we got in line to order, to the time our pizza arrived it was 1hr 50 min. But truthfully, we knew it would be a longish wait. The big surprise came when we went to order the food (at the counter). We ordered the 42" pizza with a few basic toppings. I asked her how much that would be and she said $63.. Kind pricey but whatever, it will feed everyone and its a cool novelty. She suggested I order some drinks and I obliged with a request for 2 pitchers of soda. She added it to our order, hit enter and let me know that my bill would now be $102!! I won't get into the details but lets just say it didn't go too well. Come to find out with groups of 8 or more there is a 16% service fee. NOT A TIP added....but service fee! For what??....ordering your food at counter?!? I opted to remove the pitchers of soda to lower our bill and then paid out. We got our pager and then sat and waited another 30 mins. Once we were called up, we moved over to our table and then waited another 40 min. The waiter showed up and didn't do much because there just wasn't much to do. We drank water and waited on our pizza. Remember the 3 young hungry kids? The pizza showed up and it was alright. I don't have a huge complaint there. Nothing awesome; nothing awful. Overall, I just have to reiterate that it was a very poor dining experience. The atmosphere was pool-hall-drab and the ordering process was convoluted. The price gouging add-on fee was ridiculous. And the wait for our food took forever. The vibe and the value were nonexistent. Why would you go to this place?....to order the huge pizza!!! Who orders huge pizza's?? Large parties of people. What does this establishment choose to do?....add in fees after you've waited inline for 40 minutes to make your order. No thanks.
(1)S C.
Strictly a NOVELTY!!! The pizza is BIG- that's it!!! After 2 visits, I really can't say much about the taste or quality of the pizza. (Costco pizza is way better)Service is mediocre at best, prices are high,(for dough and cheese),wait time is way too long (1hr for 14 in.), and the bathrooms are seriously overdue for an upgrade. This place has become complacent due to its popularity. The truth is,Big Lou's is really not as great as it thinks it is.
(1)Lochie D.
What a COOL place to take the family or hang with friends. Great staff & even better food. Pizza is the best but it gets better!! Wings baked & mild has a good zing. Alfredo is made with homemade noodles & sauce. Yummy n my tummy!
(5)Diane L.
Great fun for visiting guests to San Antonio and for larger gatherings Meek giant pizzas that still have flavor and taste very loud but it kind of fits the atmosphere great bar
(4)Jennifer N.
Want on the weekend of the fourth was very good but pricey and our table was kinda gross and sticky but we was out side
(3)Megan H.
Great pizza; terrible service. My friend and I were traveling through Texas and stopped in San Antonio for the night so of course I had to yelp a decent place to eat. Found out this place had been on man vs food and I was sold. So we walked in, wandered around, then when were thoroughly confused we walked over to a counter to find a girl in a hoodie who looked like she didn't work there. She then acknowledged us and asked us what we wanted. If that wasn't enough terrible service they were sure give us more as we were seated. I asked about some of the beer choices like Lone star. What kind of beer is it; Lager? Ale? The different girl waiting on us replied with something along the lines of, it tastes like beer.. I didn't expect her to know much because she looked like she was 18 so I dismissed it and ordered it anyways. I did expect her to come back once in awhile as we were waiting on a box for leftovers and our check for quite some time. This would be acceptable if it were more crowded, but there were probably 5 parties seated. I think the staff definitely got comfortable with the steady flow of customers from the man vs food fame. The pizza only partly makes up for the bad service because it was totes yummy. 3 stars for yummy pizza.
(3)Gina M.
I haven't even tasted the pizza and I freaking hate this place!!!! When we ordered our pizza they didn't even tell us how the drinks work or if we have a waiter... So we ended up having to go back up there to order our drinks. U order your food and they charge u a service fee for everything u order... Even drinks. We have been waiting for about an hour and still no pizza... Ugggh annoyed.
(2)Luis E.
Location: Very out of the way. Food: The Italian Steak sandwich w/ soda Interior Design: Large space but felt a little crowded w/ the amount of tables placed near each other and w/ tvs placed all around. Pros: Size of the food served are massive. My sandwich was good too. Cons: Feels a little claustrophobic.
(3)Jose G.
I thought it would be pricey and too tourist oriented but was pleasantly surprised that prices are reasonable and frequented by locals, which is always a good thing. Great atmosphere on a Thursday night and great service! But best of all was the pizza was absolutely delicious!!!!
(5)Linda A.
pizza was great. and we had amazing margaritas, yes at a pizza pace. We just wanted to go for the uniqueness of this event. we total enjoyed it. wings were great, and yes the pizza. we found out that they had home made (no sweet and sour) margaritas, with real lime juice, and such fresh taste. One of the best margaritas we have ever had. pizza had great flavor. we had pepperoni, mushroom and Italian sausage with other half cheese. Well worth it.
(5)Kory J.
Great gimmick even better pizza. Didn't even remember seeing on Man Vs Food. But the pizza was delicious, place was packed and didn't have to wait long at all for the pizza. Super nice staff. I will definitely return.
(5)Jasmin D.
The ultimate carbocide experience. I don't think anyone goes here because they just really love their quality pizza. It's more of a quantity over quality kind of meal where you are being so ridiculous that it turns into alot of fun.. Not to say that the pie is bad or anything, it's good, but isn't great. Again, not the objective of Big Lou's. The sight of these huge pies is insane. It is just so glutenous - WHY!? why is that pizza so freaking huge? Because Lou said so. Now eat. Prepare for up to an hour wait on Saturday's. Great place for a big group to go out and stuff your faces.
(3)Carl-Frederick F.
I can see why they call it big Lou's.the option for size is no joke.very impressive.decor is welcoming.line is way to long but we can see why.taste was sadly not to impressive.good pizza just lacking a few .overall I would say try.just to at least take a picture with a slice way bigger than your head
(3)Cass A.
From Austin, we went there...called a week in advance to try to make a reservation, they said they don't take reservations...got there, can't sign your name on the 2-hour waiting list unless you order & pay UP-FRONT! Then, it's another 2-hour wait to have your pizza cooked! That's a total of 4 hours! Manager was VERY RUDE! Went next door to Big Lou's Burger & BBQ...They were much, much nicer! Still waited a while, but not 4 Hours! They were out of BBQ, though...We all had to get burgers...Food was Delicious, though & waitress was the bomb! I think the owner even came out to help Us...She was AWESOME! Manager lady at Pizza needs to be talked to!
(1)Denise R.
I was a little sketchy about the pizza I honestly thought people were here for the pizza size, but I must say the sauce was good which is important to me. The tables are big to accommodate the 42"lol good thinking on that one. Happy Birthday Dimitry.
(5)Connie G.
Wow what an experience!!! Not only was the experience off the charts but so was the pizza!!! Came in here after seeing this place on Man Vs Food. That's right I got the famous 42 inch 1 topping pepperoni pizza!!!! Total: $56.09 However we split the bill with some invites on this journey! The wait was maybe 30 minutes and the staff was friendly. The place is clean and has plenty of seating. I want to bring everyone here! It needs to be on everyone's bucket list!! So cool and so so good! You should of seen my eyes when the staff brought out the gigantic, over the top, monster pizza! And wow the flavor! I will come here again when in San Antonio road trip anyone? :)
(5)Robert F.
Had to see what the fuss was about and was pleasantly surprised. Pizza was very good and even though we ordered 2- 20" pizzas it was more than enough food to feed our group. We will be back.
(4)Amanda H.
Nope. Nope. Nothing about this joint was enjoyable. First impressions were awful. When we arrived there was a girl throwing up right outside the door, which totally isn't the restaurants fault, but I was still a little put off. So we get in and wait for the rest of our party to arrive so we can order and be seating. There are signs everywhere, literally everywhere about their rules. Such as no seating before whole party has arrived - totally reasonable. Another said something to the affect of, "if it's a busy night, you can't stay more than two hours" - which I guess I can understand if they get super duper cray....but still. Not very tactful. So, we order our pizza and order two pitchers of beverages for 10 people. We are seated. A waiter comes and brings cups of ice, followed by pitchers. Everyone's cup was only half full. By this point, I was pretty annoyed. There was just this attitude of, "do it yourself" which is kinda a "go f yourself" in service. To me. So we wait. And wait for our server to bring refilled pitchers. And then he comes back to say our pizza is coming out and for us to move everything out of the way. Again we assemble the table at the command of the staff who so begrudgedly is working. And this massive pie is placed on our table, which my three year old was enthralled with. Seriously, the impressive size of the pizza is the only good thing. We eat. We go home. That was it. Exceptional service would put this place over the f'in top. Can you imagine a place with such an amazing product that had equally as amazing service? Friendly, bubbly servers that make you want to spend more money, cause my friends there was a full bar, but they don't make you feel welcome to stay a while and give them some more money. What works for Sally doesn't always work for Sue, and I understand this is the way they run their business, which is totally fine. If you want to gawk at a giant pizza, come here. If you want an experience, don't bother.
(2)Lynette B.
One of the worst dining experiences ever. The concept has so much potential but the execution fails miserably. We had a party of 10 (which included a 2yr. old and 5yr. old) and they wanted to charge a 16% service fee for our "large" party, NOT including the tip. It was ridiculous. We had to wait in a very cramped area and it took over an hour to seat us while the dining area was fairly empty. Then our pizza too another 30 minutes to arrive, and once it did our plates didn't fit on the table anymore. The manager(owner?) couldn't care less about any if this and never made one move to make our time at her restaurant any better. The pizza it's self was impressive in size and good in flavor but that's the only positive thing I have to say about Big Lou's Pizza.
(1)Donna V.
I finally went with a group of 8 others to check this big ol pizza out Saturday at 5pm. The heat was insane, and the line looooong. They did keep it moving and we were able to order about 30 minutes after waiting in line. Yes there's a police officer there but she was actually really cool to talk to. So was the lady taking the order and the bartender was amazing! Her drinks were dynamite and happy hour is 3-7 daily. The only drawback? So many people. If we wanted to eat inside we were going to have to wait an hour, then another hour for the 42 inch pizza to get done, so we opted to eat on the patio. Big mistake. No fans or misters or nothing. Just Texas heat. When the pizza finally came it was extremely good, but half of our party became sick from the heat that evening and the next day. We should've waited to eat inside.
(4)Gabrielle L.
Sooooo the good and the bad of it goes something like this... Pros: Friendly people, decent food, good service, clean establishment and best of all great prices. Cons: 2 hour wait! YES! I was shocked! Pizza is ok but not worth 2 hours at allllllll =/ Welp, we had to try this place it was just the thing to do while visiting San Antonio. Would I go back? Probably not. Simply because of the crazy wait time and also being from Dallas it seems that we have a lot of great choices so it's hard to compare this place with those that I've had back home.
(3)Angela F.
I was reluctant to buy into the Big Lou's hype after the Man v Food episode, but, my curiosity killed the kitty kat. Rolled in there on a Thursday night around 6:30-7 (it's on the East side...I have NO idea how I got there, just glad I did!). It was packed, in my opinion! The regulars/Big Lou "celebrities" that I went with claimed it wasn't so bad. So you wait in line, put your name on the seating list, order your pizza/drinks, get called to be seated (we only waited about 15 minutes, considering the crowd), then they bring out your food. The system is more efficient/better than it sounds. Super nice people working there. The decor is fun to look at...it feels like you're eating in someone's house with a buncha tables instead of furniture around you. REALLY good pie...I couldn't stop eating it even though I was stuffed. Great pizza rolls - ours had pepperoni, jalapenos, and pineapple in 'em - yummy. The calzones are huge...had a taste and quite delicious, they put some kind of special Italian seasoning in the crust. Big Red on tap! Go, it's worth the wait.
(4)William C.
AWESOME Pizza. No better way to carb load before the San Antonio Marathon on Veteran's Day than with some fantastic pizza! Big Lou's did not disappoint at all. Waited about ten minutes for a table and then another ten for the pizza and pasta to be served. You can not go wrong with the sausage!!! We will be back!
(5)Jeff R.
They make this a very fun experience. We had a veggie with no cheese and really enjoyed it. The Newcastle helped too.
(5)Patrick A.
Great New York style pizza. Ordered the 20" pizza it came out in about 20 minutes. We were seated quickly and the drinks and salads came out quickly after. Kids loved seeing the huge 42" pizzas on other tables. Couple things we did not like: 1. Felt like we were in a bar (not real family friendly). 2. Ordering our pizza felt like ordering from the soup nazi but like the soup nazi the pizza was worth it.
(4)Todd T.
Great family atmosphere. Went with a group of 5 for dinner, the spot is pretty popular and gets real busy so the wait for our food was kind of lengthy. Well worth it! The 5 of us only finished half of the pizza, its that big. Was too full to try anything else, but heard the calzones were just as amazing. Meal: 42" Mushroom and Sausage pizza
(4)Saul And Mimi C.
Figured we would try the place out after seeing it on Man vs. Food and I have to say, besides the crazy size of the 42" pizza that makes this place pretty appealing the pizza wasn't that great. Wait was long but understandable for such a popular joint and being a Saturday afternoon but I wouldn't have mind it if the pizza was all its made up to be. The crust was doughy and pizza mediocre. Drinks specials were sweet got that right. Not worth it if I really want great pizza but for a fun night with 10 hungry alcoholic friends.... Fail proof.
(3)Sandra V.
I love this place! It gets crowded and the wait can be long so we usually opt for carry out. My family loves the Brisket BBQ Pizza. I'm not a fan but they love it. The larger pizzas can be too doughey and greasy. You are usally better off getting smaller pizzas. Two 14" pizzas feeds more than enough for a family of 4. We have to get 2 pizzas since I don't care for the Brisket BBQ Pizza. The best pizza in San Antonio!
(4)Ken S.
Well went back on a Sunday afternoon and let me tell you a big difference from the first time. The line stretched from one end to the other and they had San Antonio PD there directing people traffic inside the place. Had to wait almost an hour for the pizza to come out, ordered the 37 incher to go. All in all it was worth the wait, I must say that it is one of the few places that I will wait for food that long, upon my return to the Wyndham Resort people were just amazed at the size of the box as I walked in the front doors.
(4)Jovan M.
First off, if you're from NYC and looking for that kind of pizza, forget about it. You will be disappointed. (I'd know - I'm from that area myself) Now for the rest of the world. This is a really good pizza, regardless of the size. They will let you have up to 4 different sets of toppings. We got the meat-lovers, supreme, pepperoni & sausage, and Hawaiian. All were very good. Others have commented on it being greasy. Let me remind you this pizza is 42" and weighs over 30 pounds. Grease is going to be a factor. However, its far less then I expected, even on the meat sections. There were 7 of us, and finishing the entire thing was not in the cards. We were very hungry, so we had the bread sticks, cheese bread sticks, and 10" BBQ pizza for apps. The bread sticks are essentially 10" pizza dough with a sprinkling of parmesan or covered in mozzarella. The BBQ pizza was the show stealer. Where most BBQ pizza are dough, pizza sauce, cheese, and some meat dry rubbed or dunked in a sauce, Big Lou's is different. They replace the pizza sauce with a sweet, tangy, BBQ sauce, then add the cheese, and then top it with their own smoked brisket. HIGHLY recommended. However, due to the different sauce at the base, it cannot be combined with other toppings. Now the service, the weak link. They advise you it will be 1.5-2 hours if your in a large group and getting the 42". This breaks down in waiting for a table for 45-60 min, then getting your apps and soft drinks, then 30 min later, getting your pizza. While you wait, the bar has 32 oz beers and 20 some-odd-oz margaritas. The Rita's got good reviews from my friends. I suggest you open a tab with the bartender and go get your drinks yourself, even after your seated. The place is very busy, the free refills on soft drinks come slow, if at all. Getting another beer takes forever. I should mention that the gratuity is AUTOMATICALLY added to the food and soft drinks, and you pay before you're even seated. When its all said and done, its a great pizza, especially the BBQ, but the service is sub par. Go with a big group and have fun.

Came here to experience what everyone was making a big deal over. First of all we waited outside in line to order for about an hr in 101degree weather. That was ok, expected for suppesedly famous restaurant. The cashier was friendly and we did not wait much to be seated. After being seated and waiting almost 2hrs at the table waiting for our simple cheese pizza at table 22. The stops by and says its going to be another half hr. 3 parties that were sat atleast 20minutes after us. Got their same size more ingredient pizza. The floor walker/greeter/sup or whatever he was stopped by and asked if all was ok, we replied and told him what happened, he asked for my receipt and after about 7 minutes came back and said it would be 15minutes that he guaranteed it. 15 after the waitress came by and said let me check on your pizza. After 5 minutes, she came back and said they were cutting our pizza now. So after waiting another 15 minutes for them to cut our cheese pizza, we finally got our pizza. Needless to say that by this time we were already full of 6 pitchers of soda between all of us, a group of 9. Pizza at this point was ehhhh....ok I guess. My one star was for the friendly cashier. Final word: eat before you go, youll be hungry again by the time you get your food.

I'm so in love with Big Lou's, its not even funny. This is the best pizza I have tasted in San Antonio, by far. I know some disagree with me on that, but this is my review so screw them. Yes, there is usually a long wait. You have to be prepared for that. It is worst on the weekends after like 9. Before then its not so bad, especially since they expanded. Ok, the food: I honestly have only had pepperoni and ham as toppings because it is so good everytime I go, I cant help but get it. The ingredients always taste fresh and they compliment each other so well. The crust is delicious in and of itself. But the thing I love the most about Big Lou's is the wings! Because they are baked, they taste so different than most wings. I always ask them to bake them twice so they are crispier. I could seriously eat those things every day. The hot is a little too hot for me, but if you like really spicy things, you will like them. Man, now I want some wings.
(5)Amber W.
The wait was next to nothing but it was FREEZING in there..had to go get my hoodie from the car. We got the 20" inch half supreme half meat lovers expecting to take some home since there were four of us, we didn't count on my husband the hoover eating every last bit of pizza on the plate. It was great...the crust was great and they are open late! They take their last seating at 11:30pm, at least on Saturday. We will be going back for the Granddaddy of all Pizzas! The 42" monster. A table full of kids at a birthday party got it and they ate the entire thing but then didn't have room for their birthday cake and it was little boys that we all know are bottomless pits. The bread sticks were yumminess and our waitress rocked.
(5)Austin G.
This place is great. No bad things to say
(4)Chris E.
Didn't try the big pizza, but regular slice was awesome. Great place and very inexpensive.

I agree with another reviewer that the food was OK, the service was good but the 2 hour wait time was KILLER! We had a party with children and hungry kids = disaster waiting to happen! My father in law and husband ended up walking 1-1/2 blocks (otherwise they would lose parking, which is crazy by the way) to Walgreens to get water and some chips for the kids to snack on. Oh yeah, we went inside to try to order drinks for the kids while waiting, we were told (rather rudely) that NO soda can be ordered at the bar unless you eat at the bar, then he turned his back IMMEDIATELY to ignore us. We had a large party, so we ordered the 42" "Super" pizza. I felt that when our pizza came out it was lukewarm, I guess I thought for such a long wait it would be steaming hot when we got it. Also, our crust got soggy and I found the sauce a bit too sweet. Understandably, there is a large amount of sauce and toppings on the pizza so it seems it would be difficult to get some "tooth" to the crust. There were two types of olives on the pizza, the standard black and the green, but the green just really overpowered the flavor with such a saltiness that after a few bites it was hard to stomach, I think it would have been better with just the black. So....unless you bring something to snack on and drink, just for the glory of saying you've had the "Giant Pizza from Big Lou's", then prepare for the looooooong wait!
(2)Bradley G.
Makes my drive from Austin worth it! It was my mistake ordering 10". Should have ordered bigger pizza! Very good pizza quality indeed!
(5)Christina Y.
Now with the 62 inch pizza!!! I need 2 deff go again!!! Pizza was good and beer was Very good!!! lol FYI: they dont sit incomplete parties!!
(4)Amber C.
I love taking visiting friends and family to Big Lou's, especially if they are visiting from outside of Texas and aren't use to everything being bigger. The pizza is one of the best tasting pizzas in San Antonio. We always have a good time and enjoy saying we've tried the 42" pizza, taking pictures and betting who can eat more than one slice. My tip is to go early. The last time we went (two days ago), we got there at 5pm and the 42" pizza arrived within 15 minutes.
(4)Katherine J.
Big Lou's is a great place for big parties, and special events. I've had my bday here 2 times and the wait staff have always been sweet. Don't come here though if you want to be seated as soon as you walk in the door, this isnt Pizza Hut!
(5)Angie F.
Love the pizzas here ! They always seem to come out just perfect . And if you say you want a large they'll REALLY give you a large lol
(5)Albert N.
Food - 4/5 Service - 4/5 Price - 4/5 Atmosphere - 4/5 Best Dish: the 42 incher! I was surprised at how good the pizza was to be honest with you. I was expecting that the pizza was going to be mediocre at best, but it was pretty good for a novelty pizza. We went with 10 people (6 guys + 4 girls) and ordered the mammoth 42 inch pizza. We finished it with ease but the size of it doesn't really hit you until you see it in person. Each slice is an experience of itself. The only downfall of Big Lous is that it takes 90 minutes to bake a pizza of this size so plan for that. Doors open for lunch each day and stay open pretty late (10pm during the week and midnight during the weekend). Happy eating!
(4)Jared P.
First of all, be prepared to wait because everyone else knows how awesome this pizza is. We got the BBQ chicken and brisket pizzas. For four people, those two pizzas and some wings set us straight for food for the next 12 hours! Also, the wings are awesome as well! My girlfriend is super picky and loved the food there.
(5)Y G B.
I don't even know where to begin. "Where Pizza's an Art" has turned into a joke. The quality crust and ingredients have disappeared into mediocrity. I won't say that Big Lou sold out for mo' money, but by all appearances, Big Lou sold out for mo' money. The new location is huge: bigger parking lot, bigger space to pack in peopled the pie has suffered. It may be the same dough recipe and the same sauce recipe, but the pies lack the quality of just a few years ago. The crust no longer has the tooth I used to love, and the sauce is thin and uninspired. I can no longer recommend Big Lou's pizza. They have lost their way, and appear to be irredeemable. Venture south at your own peril.

13 Hungry People 10 Adults-4 Men-6 Women 3 Kids-2 Boys-1 Girl.....Traveling from Ft Worth Texas by CAR!!! 5hours because of traffic and mommy I need to go potty..Right now.. 3 times!!!! OMG this kid needs a Foley catheter!! So finally we make it starving and dehydrated...were expecting to wait a while because it's a Friday night and the place is packed...however to my surprise they can seat us right away!!! We order the 37' and 4 pitchers of refillable soda...they throw some tables together and were ready to chow down family style!! The pizza was quartered with pep and sausage, one chicken, and the rest was just pepperoni...ALL quarters were delicious!! Wait that's not it, we were starving remember so we ordered the Buffalo wings umhum Costanza off the hook....wait there's more!!! some douche ordered a 37' Hawaiian style and pepperoni pizza but decided they didn't want to...so our waiter offered it to us for about $25....yeah ummmm so we had plenty of food to go...being that we couldn't finish the first pizza however thoroughly satisfied after only spending about $140 total!! Lets recap together 2 37' pizzas, 4 refillable pitchers of soda, Buffalo wings with enough for everyone to have at least 2!!! And the pizza was DELICIOUS!!! do not sleep on Big Lou's it is a must...
(5)Nat B.
I tied to take 30 people there and the management wouldn't work with me at all! I was very disappointed in their lack of customer service!
(1)Estephany C.
Worth the wait. Definitely. The wait was on average 20mins but the food was hot straight from the oven fresh. My boyfriend and I ordered the 12" pizza, cheese, mushroom, pepperoni and half pineapple and it was so flavorful! Wish we could of tried the mega pizza as seen on 'man v food' but it was just us two. Go!!!
(4)Star C.
Biggest pizza you'll ever have. It's very family friendly and the kiddos get a kick out of seeing the pies as big as they are. Try to go on a weekday if you want to avoid the lines. You won't be seated until everyone is there, so tell stragglers to arrive a half hour early. The actual pizza is not my favorite, but it's about the experience. I give the actual food a C, service an A and the location a B. Great for kids and families but if you want the best pizza in town, find another spot.
(3)Jennifer H.
It was my little sisters bday, big party, lots of hungry college students and grown men. The wait was close to an hour but it was fun fun fun with good friends and some drinks at the bar. Ordered the very famous 42 inch pizza with all the loaded goodness they have to offer. dozens of wings and cheese breads. It was well worth the wait to receive an amazingly ginormous pizza with ooey gooey cheese and tons of veggies and meats. The wings were so hot and simply delicious. The small bbq pizza we ordered on the side was heavenly, the meat just cooked to perfection with such sweetness and crispiness. This trip from Austin to find the best pizza in San Antonio was much fun and definitely worth the time. The staff is great and fun! They celebrated the bdays with the party, awesome! Well, see you soon, I shall be back! Hit the gym first, to be ready for the next round, the huge burger challenge and 62 inch pizza, you are going down! ;) Today...regrettably food may have won....but next time I shall be better prepared! Muhahaha
(5)Lisa Q.
Ok so as a Jersey girl I went into this place with the thought of..This is so not going to taste anything like back home. Boy was I surprised and willing to admit I was wrong. This is about as close to true blue East Coast Pizza that you can get here in Texas. From the generous amount of toppings to just the right amount of sauce to the perfectly cooked crust.. Ahhhhh..Sorry having a moment. The prices are a little high but I have to say this pizza is well worth it. I definitely would go back again and again and again!
(5)Jessica G.
Good pizza, but super greasy making it super good. I had an issue with the wait and work but was able to get a to go order and spend time eating while my family waited. Overall it was a nice experience.
(4)Erin T.
My dad heard about this place on the Food Network. The pizza was HUGE. And we only got the 37". There's also a 42"! I had no idea how big this pizza would be. When it came out, we all immediately grabbed our cameras. As far as the tastiness, the pizza was pretty good. My parents didn't care for the sauce, but the cheese was plentiful and delish. My husband thought the pizza was tastier about halfway through the slice. The atmosphere was great. The service was meh. You stand in a long line to order your food and soft drinks at a cashier. They then bring your meal to the table. Our waiter was MIA for most of our stay, and you have to order any alcoholic beverages separately at the bar. Overall impression: Worth the visit. The pizza is decent, and the incredible "oh my gosh, that pizza is huge" factor, well, enough said!
(4)Andracula C.
Oh my dear. This is by far the absolute BEST tasting pizza I have had in quite the while. Their slices are insanely large! The owner was there, very nice guy, seemed to really take pride in his restaurant :] This place appeared in some tv show, food wars...? I'm not sure. Something about some guy going around to different cities for the largest so and so or spiciest so and so, etc. Big Lou's offers their unbelievably large 42" pizza! Hahah a table near us ordered it. I was very tempted to take a picture, but didn't have it in me to snapshot someone else's food ;]P Anyway, amazing pizza ;] The location is.. Eh. But I'd say the pizza is well worth the visit ;]
(5)Stacey R.
This is a very well-liked pizza place here in San Antonio. I've only had take-out from here as I'm not much for the atmosphere - it's been really loud w/ all the TVs both times I've been in to pick up pizza otherwise I would have stuck around or come back to dine-in. I have had to wait both times I've ordered pizza over the phone for a substantial amount of time upon arrival to get the pizza and take it home. Not sure what's up with that but pizza shouldn't take 30 minutes. Otherwise, the pizza is fine and reasonably priced.

I was brought to Big Lou's pizza for one reason and one reason only... the 42" pizza. A friend had visited here earlier and raved about it so he knew that he needed to bring the rest of us on to witness and enjoy this monstrous creation. We came in to Big Lou's and there was quite a line and we only added to it since there were 9 of us. Soon enough though we were at the counter ordering "Texas' biggest pizza". They told us it would be an hour wait and considering the amount of people in there and the size of the pizza we were okay with that. There wasn't a whole lot of room to stand around inside but I think the small size of the place just made the experience more homely. We were finally seated and maybe 15 or 20 minutes after that the ginormous pizza arrived. The slices were a little on the thin side (I think we had asked them to slice it into these smaller pieces) but they were still probably the equivalent of 2 or 3 slices of your typical large pizza from a chain. The delicious combination of the sauce, cheese, amazing crust and pepperoni created one of the most amazing things I've ever had. It seems that they brush the dough with a butter garlic something or another and you could really taste it when you got to the crust. The staff was super friendly and the owner (I'm assuming he's Big Lou) often came out of the kitchen to ask patrons how their food was or to deliver the giant pizzas himself. The atmosphere, great pizza, and friendly staff combine to make this one of the best pizza places I have ever been.
(5)Josh V.
STAY AWAY. By far the worst pizza i've ever had in my life. I went here based on all the amazing reviews i read online.. I dont know how that happened! TERRIBLE. Waxy. Greesy. Soggy. Bad. You're better off getting a Hot-N-Ready because even Little Caesar's is better than this!
(1)Kelly A.
Holy smokes.....I will never be able to eat any other pizza again. My family and I got there at bout 8pm-ish and waited in line maybe 5 minutes, ordered and were sat within 5 minutes. I was glad because there are signs as you walk in saying an hour to 2 hour wait is normal. And our server Juan was awesome too. He brought us our drinks right away and kept us updated on the time our pizza would be out...it was out within 30 minutes. We were first timers and I didn't look at the menu before we went so my husband said he wanted to the white pizza 12' and I got the BBQ pizza 12'...my daughter had the plain cheese 10'. The pizza was sooooo amazing, I'm in love with this place. I told my husband anytime we go to San Antonio we have to go here!!!! And if you go and have to wait long, I promise the wait will be worth it!!!
(5)Jackie S.
Pizza is delish, the secret? Garlic Butter Basted Crust, always opt for the pepperoni and cheese, anything else, the pizza will get soggy :( WINGS are the best in my book, spicy, not smothered in typical wing sauce, crispy and large, full of meat. Place is CRAZY packed, so weekdays are probably best. Staff is friendly ( servers) Now register gals? Uhhh not to sure. But we love to come here for pizza n wings, best place to eat-in a pizzeria in my book, SO far though :( Be careful, this place is not cheap, but worth what you get. The house salad is pretty good too.
(4)Isaac L.
Service was bad and pizza OK. If you like to eat big, this is your place.
(2)M C.
Even the wings were great! After I was picked up from the airport, I flew in from Philly.... I chose this for dinner...our 1st stop. Yes, it was because I saw them on Man vs. Food. Surprised that the pizza was really good. Great crust, enough toppings and great flavor in the pizza sauce. It did take a while to get it bu at least watch the 42" pizzas come out was entertaining. The owner even walked around and checked on us. Great service from Matthew...he was attentive, quick, and always smiled. Keep it up..you don't get that kind of service these days.
(4)kelly j.
This place is alright. Its more of a novelty thing than anything. The pizza isn't to die for, but it is quiet a sight to see when the 42' comes out. Its advertised as 30 pounds of cheese and 30 pounds of bread. woah! I would definitely come here for a celebration. Be prepared though. On a normal day, its a 1 hr- 2 hr wait to order. Then another hour for the order to arrive. The patio is nothing but a handful of chairs and a few sorry looking tables. But this patio area is better than the busy chaos inside. The margaritas with beer are $10! My party and I each got one so that we could deal with the crowd. Our server was very nice, and helpful. There is a 20% tip added to all orders with 8 people or more. The dining area needs to be expanded as well as the parking lot. All in all... its every man for himself. If you are feeling brave, I say why not?
(3)Daniel G.
BIG LOU's!!! Lives up to & surpasses it's name. Things you can count on... 1. You'll be amazed at the size 2. You'll fall in love with briket pizza 3. You'll need a crew of people to take down anything over 37" 4. A Food Coma will creep on you.
(5)Rolando A.
In my humble opinion... Big Lou's is head, neck, shoulders, torso, waist and naughty bits better - than any other pizza dive in the city of San Antonio. Gimicky 42" clown tie pizza slices aside.... They make incredibly tasty pizza with fresh toppings where you and friends can go and partake in 32oz tap beer goodness. If you haven't been over to see their most recent expansion, you should probably think twice about that Little Ceasar's Hot n' Ready you're likely to be disappointed with and support a local pie maker.
(5)Carlos G.
My favorite pizza place in SA and I've been to practically all of them. I go here about 2 times a month. Dough has a great flavor, sauce has a nice sweetness and tanginess to it, and a good amount of toppings on the pizzas. the service here has really improved since they expanded, service was sometimes slow in the past. The biggest complaint I have about the pizza here is the the crust does tend to get soggy even with only 1 or 2 toppings.
(5)Melissa M.
This place was featured on DDD's. Being the fat kid that I am, a 42" pizza sounded like Heaven. Or atleast a novelty I could talk about for a week or so. The wait was very long, but we had a few drinks while we waited. We ordered one of the big pizzas and an additional brisket pizza. They were both very good. I'd eat here more often if it wasn't so far away. It is in a horrible location, parking is a challenge, and the waits are long. Worth it? Only to say you've eaten a 42" pizza.
(3)Alec W.
Everything about Big Lou's is first rate. Look out though, because the construction makes finding the parking lot a bit tricky. Was initially discouraged by the line, but it turns out it was just several large groups ordering the 42" pizza so it only took about 10 minutes to move through and I got seated immediately after ordering. The girl taking orders at the register wasn't terribly warm or welcoming, but my waitress was extra attentive, personable, and addressed me by name starting from when I was seated. She was super, super nice and I think her name was Darlene(?). As a matter of fact, when she noticed that I had been waiting just a bit too long for my pizza, she storms up to the kitchen counter and yells in Spanish "Alec's been waiting 20 minutes for his pizza! QUE PASA?". She was the best! Ordered the 10" BBQ brisket pizza and it was like eight slices of heaven. Usually not a BBQ sauce guy but something about Big Lou's homemade BBQ sauce had crack-like qualities. The sauce combined with the juicy and delicious brisket, which was piled on and had many crispy end pieces was sensational. I zoned out into a flavor trance all the way through the experience. The pickles they serve with the BBQ pizza enhance the flavor in a very surprising way. Wish I could comment on their more traditional pies, by my limited time in San Antonio combined with my limited appetite forces it to wait for my next visit. Long live Big Lou's and the Lujan family!
(5)Jerry R.
The pizza here is very good, but if you ask me, it's not worth the parking headache, or the very long lines. If you get a pizza to go, you will love it. But the dine-in experience isn't worth all the hassle.
(3)Zeze A.
The experience was incredible....We tried to tackle the 62 inch people with 20 people and we were able to finish the pizza. Sammy Jo was the funnest server I have had in a while and she was good as well. The manager was very nice ......we had a great time .....thank you "Big Z" PS I'm from Chicago and my family has been in the pizza and restaurant business for 35 years you guys get a A grade from me.
(5)christi m.
Best pizza ever - hands down. Everytime we go there, the pizza is outstanding. The only drawback is how they operate the ordering and table selection. You wait in line (which goes pretty quickly), order your food & drinks, then wait to be seated. I usually don't tip at the cash register, cause i don't know what kind of service i will be getting. We usually see large groups of folks waiting for those big pizzas. If it's a birthday, they come out with a bullhorn that has a siren and everybody sings. There are two bars and the beers are nice and cold. The margaritas are also pretty darn good.
(5)Mike T.
This place has the real deal pizza's .
(5)Josh H.
Much love from Dallas!!! Some of the best pizza I have ever had and thats for sho!! The quality did not suffer which normally does when things are larger but this 42" pizza hit the spot big time. I will be back, hopefully soon too.
(5)Hecate F.
I had seen plenty of reviews about this place on Yelp! It seemed everyone and their granny had been here but me. The Travel Channel had paid them a visit, I needed to see what this monster was all about! I had heard the legend of the 42'' Pizza Pie enough to feed a small village off the coast of Africa :) I had seen pictures, read reviews, but I had to see it for myself! I rounded up a group of 7 brave souls, a curious entourage that had no idea what we were about to feast on! We had been joking that you can only dine in to experience this masterpiece since it's too big to carry it out. The establishments door is too small for this giant and not pizza box exist to carry it! The Pizza came out and every table around us asked to take pictures, we were afraid that the pizza would be cold by the time we finally sat down to enjoy it! It is surprisingly very delicious, thin, juicy, filling! I was impressed by the taste, judging by the size I wondered how it would taste. Everyone on our table hesitantly ate ONE slice, I ate two, and my fiance ate 3 and left a 4 piece half way! :) It was more than plenty for 7 people and we had 4 slices to take home! We spent an average of $100.00 with drinks. If you don't want the 42'' they do offer all different size of pizza pie, salads, calzones, pasta or just go for dessert! I didn't leave any room for the cheese cake-looked delicious! I love their decoration which is very home-style surrounded with antique signs and advertisements.

Patience is all you need for a great experience. Definitely do not show up hungry if you're going for the 42" or bigger. We went on Saturday at 4:00 hoping to beat the dinner rush but it still took two hours from the time we walked in to when we got our pizza. We waited for a table for an hour and fifteen minutes. My family (11 of us) was getting grumpy because it was hot and the waiting area is not family friendly. I was in good spirits thanks to cheap beer. A pint of shock top was $2! Once the 42" pizza arrived we were all smiles. People eating near us clapped and the kids were in awe. Totally worth it. The pizza is thin crust naturally, I am a Chicago style guy, but I've been enough in the past to order other items on the menu and report that all the food is good here. Go check it out!
(5)N P.
Fantastic! The crust was nice and crusty and chewy. Can't beat the BBQ Pizza. The sauce had a nice sweet smoky taste and brisket was nice and tender. We got our pizza carry out and it was still piping hot when we picked up.
(4)Steven B.
Visited around a month ago and the wait was longer than some places i've been but it was minimal for the amount of people wanting to enjoy this place. Once seated and the food arrived the pizza was awesome. The only item I wasn't impressed with was the cannoli. It just didn't feel to be anywhere near authentic. I would go back for the pizza though, worth the trip just for that.
(4)Chad T.
Not bad. Great atmosphere. Looks like it was someone's home converted into a pizza joint. We came on a Thursday night and the place was packed. Line was out the door, but they seem to have a good system down between dine-in and pick-up. I get the feeling though that this place is always that busy. Our waitress was sweet, but the woman that took our order was a bit impatient. There is a separate area with a bar. Beer is not overpriced. The pizza was okay. Everyone recommended the BBQ brisket pizza, so I tried it. I love brisket, but not on pizza. The pepperoni and mushroom we got was good, crust was okay, but seemed skimpy on the toppings, even on the brisket pizza. Great family place. Love the atmosphere but the pizza is just okay, but will give another try.

Feeling lazy on my research for San Antonio, I decided to follow in the steps of Man vs Food and come to Big Lou's. I was ready to delve right into the excitement on this cold, rainy Wednesday evening . . . and that's when I saw the absurd line. Buzz kill. The wait is kinda stupid. You wait in a line. Wasn't too bad I guess, but if you come in starving it turns into Man vs Famine. So I get to the counter to order. Then I'm told to wait around anywhere for someone to seat us. Complicated no? So finally we are seated. Pizza takes long fyi. Which is cool. Made fresh. Busy place. Famous even. I get it! As I sat there, I got to suck in the ambiance. Sucktastic. I guess if you like loud guffaws--this is the place. A lot of hee hawing going on. Painful to the ears, perhaps damaging to the psyche. Might not be like this all the time, but I have my suspicions that it might indeed be the case. We started with Ham and Cheese Pizza Wraps. These little demons (well, they're not little) are greasy as all hell and dripping deliciousness. Heartburn assured. It's really a should not miss. Just be ready. The pizza itself is good. We ordered a pepperoni and garlic pizza. It's like the pizza you would have at the mall if it were really fantastic. It's also high on salt and really aggressive on the acidity of the sauce, but good stuff overall. Just be ready to void any workout you did before going here. Lou's tanks on points for me for ambiance and our waitress was pretty aloof. I probably won't be back. It's worth a visit--especially if you order that 42 inch pizza with a group. I could see such a thing being great fun.

Having recently moved from the Northeast (Connecticut/Massachusetts), I can say this is the only place I've tried so far in San Antonio that gets close to New York style pizza. Heck, you even get the New York attitude included with your order! Delicious pizza, reasonable prices, and a fair selection of toppings definitely makes this a great choice for pizza. Having just gone here this weekend... it seems they are expanding their operation. Lets just hope that it doesn't go to their heads and affect their ability to make great pizza.
(5)Achara T.
The pizza was just ok. Was it worth to wait for 1.5 hour? I would say "NO". I see it as a good place to hang out with friends and big family to enjoy their 42"pizza. It's cool that they make their pizza that huge. But I didn't love its taste because I've tried something better and didn't have to wait that long! Also, it was freezing there. Bring your jacket. They're really blowing AC at you!
(2)Valerie B.
I came here after coworkers recommendations. It is definitely a pizza that you need to bring a group of friends to enjoy! The crust is what makes this pizza particularly delicious. It is light yet sturdy enough for all the cheese, sauce and toppings. I have not had the salad or calzones that this restaurant offers but I have had their wings. They were just ok. Perhaps I was just too blown away by the pizza to love the wings but they weren't bad. They were just ok. The decor is sporty with beer signs. It would be the perfect place to watch a good game.
(4)Jim F.
Huge pizzas, parking lot was under construction so was a total mess trying to park.
(3)Lisa N.
We didn't get the huge pizza.. boooo but the table next to us did and it was HUGE. That table honestly had a good 15 ppl there. we had the combination and it was bomb dot com. I barely could eat two slices. you have to use two plates to put it on. and i loved loved loved everything on that pizza. bell peppers and mushrooms are my favorites! the environment is family friendly. kids were running around everywhere. i remember game machines. its slight dark with light up signs on the walls. it really feels like you're at someone's house for dinner. LOVE ITTT. parking is in the back of the house on gravel. the line was a slight wait. thank god i had my friends ds. def want to come back on my next visit!
(4)Edward D.
Our Texas tour next stop was here today. We were definitely not going to try the 42" pie. I tried the BBQ brisket pizza, although it was different and glad I tried it. It was no big deal, their pepperoni and bell peppers pizza was awesome. Their bread sticks were very good, and their spaghetti was good. We had a lot of fun here, even though there is a wait. It doesn't take long to get seated. This is definitely a must try.
(4)Maxwell H.
I've only been here once, and the pizza was OK. The scene was like a Chuck E. Cheese's without the animatronics: kids climbing the walls and running all over the place. The people working there seem like they're reading to knock off and head home at any minute (or at least scoot out for a smoke break). I haven't tried the giant pie, but it looked pretty inedible (the center of every slice looked incredible floppy and not like something I'd ever want to try). And yes, the crust has a ridiculous amount of sugar (which is always uncalled for in my pizza-loving world) and little flavor otherwise. You could certainly do worse in San Antonio, but I don't really see what all the fuss is about here.
(2)Nate T.
Amazing pizza I must say....them the SIZES!!! Wow!!! And the quality and taste was not lost! THe3y do have regular sizes as well as the "Gunga"....yes, you have to make a new word to describe the largest one they have! Again, if you have family coming into town and want to surprize them with some Huge Pizza, or a office outing, or a party at your house...this is the place to go! Trust me...it is awesome!
(5)Stephen R.
Big Lou's definitely seems like a "must eat" if you're in San Antonio. Judging by the line of cars parked along the street and the people waiting to get in, it's as much a part of the cultural landscape here as the Alamo or the Riverwalk. You can almost miss this place completely were it not for all the cars parked in an otherwise quiet neighborhood. It looks like it used to be a house and the actual sign is obscured by a tree. We went on a Friday night and to say it was packed would be an understatement. You order your food from the front counter and they call you when they have a table for you. Theoretically, your food should arrive shortly after you sit down. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes for our table and close to another 20 for our pizza. It wasn't terrible, after all it was pretty busy and the people watching certainly was entertaining. The pizza is really quite good. Perhaps a touch too greasy, but just delicious. We had supreme and pepperoni and were quite satisfied. Definitely quality ingredients. My biggest complaint would be the bar. We knew we were going to be waiting a while for our food, so we posted up in the bar to have a few beers. The place, as I mentioned, was super busy and so was the bar. Well they only had one bartender. It was not very efficient getting drinks. If you like pizza and you're in San Antonio, definitely make an effort to get over to Big Lou's. You shouldn't be disappointed.
(4)Breanne S.
I, like nearly everyone in this city, have been hearing about this place non-stop for a while, especially since Man vs Food featured it on their show. A few friends and I finally decided to give it a shot to see what all the buzz was about. We found parking easily but wandered in to find a terrifyingly long line of people at the register. Luckily, the line moved quickly, as since most people order pizzas, each group ordered theirs and moved on as a bunch. After you order, you pay and are seated by a waitress. As we were led to our table, I couldn't do much but stare at all the tables we passed with my jaw dropped. The place was packed and there were SO MANY PIZZAS everywhere. Some of those pizzas were the gigantic 42" pizza for which Big Lou's is so famous. I was aghast at the sheer amount of pizza on one huge pizza plate... they seemed to be enjoying it, though. My table of four ordered a regular-person-sized pizza and some garlic-cheese bread sticks. The bread sticks were... amazing. So soft, so greasy, so cheesy. I ate WAY too many, so didn't get to eat the amount of pizza I would have liked, but the pizza that I DID manage to shove into my mouth was wonderful as well. The crust is great, the toppings were piled on, and the sauce and amount of cheese rounded out the pizza in a great way. Though I can't personally vouch for the 42" pizza, from what I saw it didn't seem like the best option there. It really is gigantic, so unless you have a large amount of people, it'll take forever to eat and get cold. Also, the pizza is still cut into giant triangular slices, so what you get is a nub of crust on the end and 41" of a long floppy pizza slice triangle. Now, that might be your thing - I'm not judging... it just seems like ordering it would lead to cold floppy pizza disappointment instead of gigantic fatness (which is my goal). The waitress we had was not the best. She was slow with refills and stopping by to check on us, and kinda seemed like she was a family friend rather than a waitress that had applied for a waitressing job. However, aside from taking a little longer to get refills, it was no big deal and wouldn't affect my wanting to return... and return I will, perhaps after a 3-day fast.

Went in on a tuesday afternoon around five. kind of nervous it was going to be busy. Our order was taken, quickly to our seats. The BEWARE PIZZA CAN TAKE UP TO TWO HOURS . sign kind of punched me in the stomach so I strolled over to their fully stocked bar. Bar nicely set up and clean and organized.I had uv lemonade with cranberry juice and something else. Whatever it was good. Decent happy hour prices. For kIsure want to come with my husband for happy hour! Our big salad came to the table and it was so good. Lettuce, onion, bell pepper, cheese, black and green olives, tomatoes. Yum. Me and my girl split it. Her hubby and offspring got the spaghetti dinner. Smelled good and the princess ate it all up. The bbq pizza is out of this world.

We went here last year for a birthday with a big group of friends. We wanted to conquer the Big Pizza. i'd heard of the really long waits on the weekends for the Big pizza so we went on a weekday night which was perfect for a group of 16. We were seated in 15 minutes. There was no hassle. Great Atmosphere! It's campy place with random stuff plastered on the walls. The staff is so nice! Wait till you meet Big Lou! The Big Pizza was excellent!. WHAT a deal. it's like $50 bucks for a 42inch pizza. They allowed us to have 4 types of pizza on there which is excellent for a mixed vegeterain/meatatarian/muslim group. So different eating preferences/allergies. No problem! The You Tube videos on how to eat the pizza were really helpful since each slice is 18 inches long and the toppings will slide right off the pizza if you pick it up wrong. Anyway, pizza was ready in like 30 minutes and theres a full bar so we had a great time while waiting. While we waited Big Lou stopped by and said hi. The place has a great mom and pop feel. For a 42 inch pizza, it was excellent! Crispy crust. Mozzarella cheese that stretches. Maybe the middle of the pizza is a tad soggy. But it's a 42 inch pizza! The pizza was split in to 32 slices which was perfect for the 16 of us and no one left hungry! TIPS: -Go on a weeknight if you want the big pizza, they don't take reservations -They only take 4 credit cards per table but at $50 for a huge pizza, who cares -Make sure you have the time to drive deep in to South San Antonio and wait for the pizza, this is an all night ordeal -Watch the YouTube videos!

I've been here a total of two times, and both times I had to wait quite a while. I guess it means a lot of people enjoy it, or the place is really small and just not big enough for a good flow of customers. Nonetheless, an hour and a half later, we received our table and a while MORE later, we received our pizza. Although some may say the wait was worth it, I think the wait is border line worth it. I still enjoyed the meal, but just prepare yourself for a wait before eating some jumbo large cheesy goodness. Meal: Mild/Hot Wings - delicious Pepperoni Pizza - delicious Bread Sticks w/Marinara Sauce - delicious Can we just pick up the tempo please.

We just moved here from Brooklyn, and we saw this pizza on the food channel. It was the day after Thanksgiving and we had some family in, so we decided a 42" pizza was in order. We got a pitcher of beer and the 42" pie with 1/4 cheese, 1/2 mushroom, & 1/4 sausage and mushroom. I'm a big fan of mushrooms on pizza, but I have to say the cheese was my favorite, i guess i was in the mood for it that day. The cheese alone was the best cheese pizza I've ever had. The sausage was also amazing, perfectly flavored and crispy. The crust is light and fluffy with a little bit of crunch and I fully expected the middle of the pizza to be undercooked because of its size, but this was not the case. I would go here over and over again for regular sized pizza. There was no line when we went (everybody must have been out black Friday shopping) and our pizza was out in about 20 minutes. Big Lou definitely exceeded my expectations, just wish it were closer to where we live!

If you've ever woken up and realized, "Today, I need to eat my body weight in pizza," (and frankly, who hasn't) Big Lou's is the place for you. This East side gem made a name for themselves (and earned several TV spots) with the 42" pie that weighs a supposed seventy pounds! That's a lot of pizza, y'all. The slices on this bad boy are so large that you have to use TWO plates to hold it! YOWZA! The exposure they've gotten from this monster has increased their business immensely. They've begun an expansion to accommodate the madness, so don't worry about the wait guys, it will ease soon! The good news is, delicious flavor is not lost to the gimmick. The pizza is fabulous. Gooey, ooey, cheesy deliciousness atop crust that is the perfect balance of chewy and crispy. I haven't tried the brisket pizza, but I will. And I imagine that will be an amazing day, so I will be sure to update this review when that happens!

Cool concept with the huge pies, but the taste and quality are lacking.
(1)Rubin L.
The 40 minute wait was well worth it. The pizza was excellent and so were the frozen margaritas. We only waited 30 minutes for our pizza to be cooked and delivered and mainly because we got there when they had just opened. So if you arrive when there's a line stretched out the door into the parking lot, then I could see someone waiting anywhere from 1 to 2 hours for their pizza to be delivered to the table.
(5)Raquel G.
Took son and some friends. We were told 1-1.5 hour wait and another 1-1.5 hour for the 42" pizza. We ended up ordering 2 20" pizzas. We did get seated in the timeframe. Our pizzas came out about 30 minutes later. We had to wait a bit for plates. We should have ordered the larger pizza. The party next to us was seated at the same time and they got their order of the larger pizza a few minutes later. The line was going out the door when we were leaving. Wasn't to happy that the tip was already added to our bill when we ordered.

This place was amazing. I came as a group with 7 others and we ordered the biggest pizza on the menu. It was HUGE. The pizza covered up the entire table...we had no places to put our drinks. We had to move everything of the table. It was entertaining watching our waiter carry this gigantic pizza on top of his head...that was a really great balancing act he had to do. Entertainment aside, the pizza was also delicious. Our group had a fun time there and ate as much as we could and still had plenty of leftovers! For all those visiting for the first time, you should be aware that this is a very popular spot to eat, so the wait could be a long one. Our group stood in line before the restaurant opened...Luckily we got to the line pretty early, as the line quickly grew and formed through the parking lot.

My sister treated the 3 monkies and I and it was wonderful. We had no wait, (Thursday 2pm). We're pigs. On our table we had a mushroom calzone, (mine), a big bowl of alfredo, a cheese pizza, a calzone stuffed with pepperoni, sausage, any animal wondering by for my son, a lovely little pizza with mushrooms, olives and pepperoni. The portions were huge, we had big doggie boxes, (I stole the boxes from doggie). The food was wonderful. I don't want to sound like a shill but it was really, really good. And while we were gorging ourselves this nice young man came to the table and started chatting with us about the food and the restaurant, charming kid, made us feel very welcome. They even wheeled out that huge pan. I know where I'm taking all of my out of town visitors.
(5)Tonya B.
BBQ Brisket Pizza was delicious, they served it with sliced dill pickles which sound strange but was out of this world. Not to mention the salad was huge and was able to split it with my girlfriend. The hubby and baby shared a half order of spaghetti meal and was plenty to feel them both up. Decent prices and well worth the wait on the pizza, which wasn't long at all. I am getting hungry just thinking about going back.

Ok, so first things first. I am a New Yorker turned Texan. I grew up on some of the best pizza in the world (yes, I have been to Italy) The one thing that stood out the most in my Italian eyes, where do we go for good pizza around here?! I will tell you where, Big Lou's. Gather up about 6-12 of your friends depending on their levels of hunger and head over. Not only is the pizza fantastically huge (which makes for a fun and unique experience) it is darn good. I mean like, close your eyes and take a bite and you might hear some yellow cabs honking good. Plan on being there for awhile, relax and enjoy!
(5)Paul D.
LOVE the pizza. So delicious! Perfectly crispy crust, and fresh toppings. My dad and I went, and we ordered a 14" sausage, pineapple and jalapeno. We were full after 3 slices each (2 left)! Will DEFINITELY go again. Great atmosphere, and fun to see the humongous 42" pizzas delivered by two people. Be sure to get there on slightly off times because you could be waiting quite a while. 5:30 was very smooth, but when we left at 6:30, there was a line of people waiting to order that literally went to the door (probably 25-30 minutes just to order).
(5)Ray R.
If you think brisket and bbq sauce doesn't belong on a pizza well try this at big lous and your taste buds will thank you. They have other pizzas to try other than this but this has to be one of my favorites. Nothing like combining two of my favorite dishes into one and coming out as good as it does. The place might seem a little intimidating because of where it's located and how crowded it can get but it's worth the wait. Also they make a 42'' pizza so bring plenty of friends if you want to try that. This place was also featured on Man Vs Food. One of the must try's of San Antonio.
(4)Josh B.
We arrived and expected a 2 hour wait and it was about 90 min before we were sat down. This pizza and the 42" experience is SOooo worth the wait! O. Top of that you should absolutely try the Corona-ritas!! They are the best margaritas I've ever had. Also the pia colada is simply amazing as well!
(5)Ray B.
Finally made the visit to Big Lou's. First off, the place is really cool to hang out at and watch a game. I ordered the 42' pepperoni pizza for a group of 6 of us. Pizza was was very tasty and the crust was very crispy! Pizza slices were huge sort of like Greco's Pizza in Hollywood, CA. The only problem I had was the way the crust tasted. It sort of tasted like garlic bread and was too buttery which I did not care for. The other problems I had was the wait for the pizza and for not selling pizza by the slice. It took almost 2 hours for the pizza to get to our table. I would have given 4 stars for this place if the wait was not so long! Big Lou's should sell the 42" pizza by the slice so anyone can experience eating that large pizza slice without dishing $53 for the whole pie.I recommend this place to anyone that loves to taste different kinds of pizza however be prepared to wait or make a reservation to avoid the wait time. Also keep in mind that you will have to buy the pricey 42" pizza in order to experience eating that large slice.
(3)H T.
The food is great as well as the customer service. We had the Calzone, BBQ Pizza and the Pizza Wraps. If your'e in the area try it!
(4)Michele J.
Had a great experience at Big Lou's! Honestly, we were just going for the experience of ordering the 42" pizza and had very low expectations. I am from NY and I am pretty picky about my pizza. But...the pizza was great! The kids were mesmerized by the size of it. Great family place. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I thought the price of the 42" pizza was high and it took about an hour for it to be served. We arrived at 5:45 pm on a Friday and there was no line. We were there for2 hours and when we left the line was out the door and people were waiting everywhere. Great pizza, great service, great atmosphere. Happy we went for the experience -- we will probably go back even though it's pretty far away from our house. Thanks!

IT'S A BIRD...NO IT'S A PLANE...NO IT'S BIG LOU'S 42" PIZZA!!! That's right baby, three and a half feet of cheesy, gooey goodness. It's so big you have to eat it there - they don't have boxes big enough for delivery. This place freakin' rocks! The pizza tastes great. There was just enough sauce, just enough cheese, just enough toppings. It was perfectly balanced and there wasn't too much of any one thing. The dough is soft and chewy. It's not the thin and crispy NY style that I usually like, but it's actually really good. I even eat their crust, which I rarely do. The slices are so huge I had to eat them with a fork and knife until they were small enough to pick up. The staff is also wonderful. The manager showed us the kitchen and oven (specially ordered from Chicago) where they make the biggest pizza I have ever seen! I've been here a bunch of times. Since they don't take reservations, plan to wait in line on the weekends. At 6:00 on Saturday, it could be an hour in line - sometimes it goes out the door. We also went on a Tuesday night one time. It wasn't very busy, so the service was speedy quick. The atmosphere is very fun and casual, covered wall to wall in pictures, posters, etc. The signs were so popular that someone even stole them from the bathroom - poor Big Lou. I love this place and I go here every time I'm in San Antonio.
(5)Matt M.
Can get crowded. I think the main draw is the insanely large 37" & 42" pizzas they offer. I had a 20" with a few friends, it was pretty good, but I think Rome's pizza still wins as far as flavor goes.
(3)Alexander C.
This place is cool, I think it has a little too much hype, but its OK and its definitely not the worst I've had. Me and a buddy had been dying to try this place, and we finally made some time as we were driving through SA. First off...The place is PACKED! It was nutts, whats even crazier is that we only stood in line for about 5 minutes before we gave our order. This place is very organized, you can tell they have the science down. We got seated in full view of the kitchen. I swear I saw 7+ huge pizzas being carried out before we got our order. Our order came out roughly 40 minutes after we placed them, 3-14inch pizzas. My friends wanted the HUGE pizza but I was against it because I hate soggy crust pizza. I thought getting the 14inch would be perfect, I was wrong. The crust on the outter edge was good but the inner was soggy. If you like soggy crust, or dont care, this place is for you. I'm a bit of a pizza crust snob, it has to be crispy/chewy. Big Lou came around to talk to us while we were eating, which was cool, not too many places still do that. In all it was a good experience but I think I'll only be experiencing this once...
(3)Matt V.
Fun for going with family or a big group! Pizzas are massive and sausage tastes kinda like ground beef but the cheese makes up for it... So naughty
(5)Collin L.
The pizza is pretty average. You're paying (and probably waiting for a long time) for a novelty--an enormous pizza. It's kinda fun the first time you go and see this huge pizza dropped in front of you. But that's about it. There's not a whole lot else to write home about, especially when considering the wait.
(2)Kino M.
For a big pizza, still had great taste! First timers and will be back again.
(5)Gabriel C.
One of the best pizza places in town. Went here because A LOT of people recommended it....and I can completely agree with them. Their pizzas are awesome!! Not too greasy, not to thick, taste great and they serve beer here. If it was that I would have to drive across town to get here, I would have given it 5 stars. I prefer Rome's pizza because is closer to where I live, but this is a very close second.
(4)Matthew B.
Went there this past weekend and got a 14" BBQ Brisket pizza and a 20" half pepperoni half sausage, I didn't try the pepperoni/sausage but everyone with me liked it a lot... As for the Brisket pizza... best... pizza... ever. I hadn't had a proper brisket pizza since i was a kid. This thing HIT THE SPOT. Wash it down with a Cherry Coke and I could have sworn it was 1991 again. The line and wait for a seat appear intimidating but it is seriously worth it. I will never love another pizza the way I love Big Lou's Pizza. LOL.
(5)Jose G.
Got the rec to visit from MAN VS. FOOD and was hoping to sample a slice from the "Big 42." Unfortunately, they don't sell by the slice and you have to special order the "Big 42." Otherwise, the pizza here is first rate, and I should know, I'm from New York. Well, that and I had half of the pie before my wife even finished her first slice - that really is a first. Place seemed kinda small which is probably why they are renovating. Hope to return soon.
(4)Michelle M.
I loooovvveeedd this place! I admit - I'm a sucker for just about any place featured on "Man vs. Food", but the pizza here is delicious. Big Lou's is definitely a restaurant worth returning to, rather than just checking off your list. We sampled the meatlovers, veggie, cheese and pepperoni - all yummy and served piping hot. The two bars, patio, huge tables and ridiculous 42-inch pizzas make this a great locale for big groups and parties.
(5)Michael B.
It really is the best pizza I've had in San Antonio. I eat pizza too much - or at least my doctor would say that - and I've found my new home away from home cooking. My wife and I shared an order of their garlic cheese bread - amazing - and a medium pepperoni pizza - even more amazing. We were surprised at the quality; better sauce than Goomba's, better cheese than Grant St., better flavor than Jillian's, and really just a better all round meal than the other pizza places in San Antonio. It looks home made from the moment you park; Big Lou's looks like they set up shop in the Brady Bunch home. When you walk in the walls are covered in one random item after another, the tables are filling every area they can - which I appreciate since it cuts the wait time down. When you first walk in you order your food and then they sit you so it reduces the time you spend at the table looking over the menu and makes the entire experience seem like a whirlwind. It reminds me of how you order pizza in Chicago; order first get seated second. My wife and I loved it and can't wait to go back; also in the parking lot I almost ran over San Antonio's newest late night TV personality Cleto Rodriguez from Fox's The Cleto Rodriquez show. So how can this place not be great.
(5)Jeffrey H.
What do you think of when you hear Big Lou's? I can't help but think of Adam Richman from Man vs. Food. Fortunately for all of us who live in San Antonio realize that they serve really good pizza not just a really big pizza. I drove by the other day and they are under construction with a giant addition. My hope is that they keep up the great pizza that they have become known for while expanding. This is a top spot for pizza in San Antonio at fair prices. The pizza is delicious no matter the toppings the base is the crust and the sauce which are divine. I wish they would deliver it to my house!
(4)Julie R.
I love pizza so huge a group of 7 couldn't finish it lol
(4)Alan W.
Yes, they have a clever gimmick, but aside from that, their pizza is really great!
(5)Tyra T.
Awesome!!! This pizza was delicious and gigantic!! We had the 20" and it was super filling!!!! I would definitely drive back from Los Angeles to try And conquer the 42" with some friends!!!
(4)Ryan A.
The best pizza I've had in a long time. You might wait for your food a little longer than expected because it will probably be busy when you are there. It takes time to bake perfection into pizza. Be patient, have a beer, & get ready to experience pizza bliss.
(5)Derek A.
I had only HEARD stories about Big Lous gigantic pizza. I reallt thought it was exagerated. But it was true...good lord and butter..it was all TRUE! We ordered the biggest pie they have...and WHOAAAA MAMA...that sucker was HUGE! Taste? Well Ill tell you...it was definatelly packed with flavor...from the sauce to the toppings. At times it came off a little bit salty...but easily overlooked! And the service was top notch...nice people...friendly..we got seated right away (we had about 9 people with us...so that was great!). We knocked back some appetizers (garlic knots I believe) and had slices of pizza you needed two plates to hold. And I mean LENGTH wise! The overall ambience was fun and relaxing...better lit than a bar...a little dimmer than some family resteraunts. The walls are colorfully decorated with signs...it was just a fun place through and through!!!
(4)Lulu A.
oh hell yes. line out the door, so we ordered to go - eating in may have been a 5th star for ambience... outdoor seating perhaps??? watched Man vs. Food and had to do the BBQ pizza w Brisket. also did a Hawaiian plus pepperonis. Im from Buffalo and used to work in a pizzeria. Amazing flavor, light, crisp, the crust even has a soft buttery quality. ill be back 100% - and for 4 of us the 20" and the 16" were way more than we could finish.
(4)Jonathan S.
Very good pizza, but not great in my opinion. I appreciate the addition of garlic butter to the crust, though. Great wings. My favorite "pizza" item are the pepperoni pizza rolls. Ironically, they do not make the pizza rolls there. WTF?
(4)Andres S.
Went with my film class and I was blown away! The pizza was huge and it was delicious. Seeing what the guy would eat on Man Vs Food it was safe to say if it was big it looked like they didn't put much thought into the quality of it. Well this pizza was so good and it was hard to feel guilty. Try the brisket pizza, I was impressed.
(4)Traveler 9.
42 inch Pizza is delicious, we had half pepperoni and half sausage and it was great. The experience was excellent. My family had a good time. The only drawback was the wait. 1 hour to get in and about 30 minutes for the pizza to get out. I wish I could have tried the brisket pizza, it sounded good. They are currently expanding to accommodate more people and hopefully cut the wait time. This place is a must if you are in San Antonio.
(4)Gino N.
Love Big Lou's. Great pizza and they even have white pie, not so common in SA. If you haven't tried white pie style pizza, give it a try. Big Lou's is normally packed at lunch but worth it. It's also a perfect after work/late afternoon spot as they also have a full bar connected to the main dinning area. No smoking in the bar so that's a huge plus as well. The servers and bartenders have always been outstanding on my visits. If you're a pizza fan, you'll be a fan of Big Lou's!
(4)tim b.
Big Lou's is not near anything you need to go to and no one you know lives nearby - so you just go out of your way for a BIG Friggin' Pizza. I went 4 yrs ago just to try the 36" pizza. That doesn't sound all that large but ir your remember your geometry, the area of the pizza increases signficantly with the radius (pie R squared - no pun intended). So i sat down with two other adults and a teenage boy waiting for our pizza to arrive. They tell you that you can't get the whole thing to go because there aren't any boxes big enough and it wont fit ou the door. So we are sitting at a 4 top table and when the pizza comes, they slide over another 4 top to place the pizza on top of it. You need two plates to handle once piece and the crazy part of all this - its really good pizza. I think it does suffer a bit from being that large because the center getsa litte soggy. We bet the teenager with us that he couldn't eat three pieces and his eyes lit up with the idea of easy money. But he was sunk after two.... let the taunting begin. So i head back to Big Lou's last year with a bigger crew but I am thinking to myself, we should just get a couple of smaller pizza's to enjoy the awesome crisp crust. I don't think we need to repeat the 36" extravagance again. And then I find out that now they make a 42 inch version - GOTTA HAVE IT! That trip we had five adults, two teenage boys and hungry tweener. It didn't matter - the pizza still triumphed. I gotta stop writing this reviews at night - it is making me hungry right before I go to bed. So I think if you love pizza, you have to make the pilgrimage to Lou's once in your life.

For my niece's birthday, our family decided to try this place out. I, personally, had never heard of this place before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was not pleased with the attitude of the lady taking orders, but I guess she just doesn't like people. It was Saturday around 1:30pm when we all arrived. They will not seat uncompleted parties, nor even take your order. I was not aware of the wait we would have. Although the wait for the table wasn't as long as some expected, my children did get restless. (Bring something for them to do such as a Nintendo DS, or something) We were seated at two large round tables pushed together. This place does not seemed equipped for the amount of volume they have. My niece didn't seem to please with the experience, but I told her once the new (bigger) place opens up, we will go back and give them a fair shot! The pizza was quite tasty, and the crust was a wheat crust! I would suggest going during the "off-peak" times, or be aware of the wait you may have. The restaurant appears to have been build with the capacity of 50-75 people, so for those of you with a party of 5 or more, the wait will be longer than a party of 2 or 3. The 42" pizza is enough to feed a family/party of 10 with leftovers! Come with an appetite, and be ready for a nap after your meal!
(3)Wes M.
Very good pizza. This a casual dining place, so nothing fancy. Lots of big screens with ESPN on. We had a 5 topping pizza that came fast and as ordered. They have 42 inch pizza that many big tables had. Those slices looked huge! Anyway, great meal for the $. Very popular place and was near capacity on a Thursday night. Come early, and bring your appetite.
(4)Adrian F.
Ok, so after seeing this place on Man vs. Food, my friends and I decided to check it out. Yes, we saw few of the "Big Lou 42"' being taken to some tables, and WOW! Those suckas are huge! But to be honest, the Pizza was so-so. If you've ever been to Peter Piper Pizza, you can taste some similarity. As my friend Adriana said "your paying for the ambiance." LOL. Unfortunately, we didn't try Big Lou's 42", we just had the 14", but we will be back to tackle that beast when we're ready
(3)Rayid G.
So we went for the hype and that's just what it was. The pizza did seem like 42 inches but size is where the fun stopped. The pizza tasted so-so, nothing special, and a little floppy making it hard to eat.
(2)Kate S.
I was in town visiting and went because of man vs food. It was very cool watching the huge pizzas come out! I went around 5:30 PM on a Friday and had a 10 minute wait. The service was great, and I enjoyed the decor.
(4)Elle J.
It was a pretty good experience with some rough edges. We went there on a Friday and it took about an hour and a half just to get a table. They have a bar, so while we were waiting, we kicked back with a couple of beers at the tables in the waiting area outside. I wish the bar service was faster because we had to wait like 5 min. to get our drinks. They kindly had our 42" pizza started before we got seated so we only had to wait 45 min. for it once we sat down. The actual pizza was delish and came with ranch dressing. This place is quite the experience. It makes getting pizza a fun all night event. Even when we were waiting for a table, it was nice to chill with my friends and for all of us to excitedly anticipate this monster pizza like little kids. If I could improve anything about it, service should be faster. The waiting area is so big that you wonder why they don't make that part of the restaurant. Perhaps they don't have the kitchen capacity to serve so many at once? Also, the parking lot is difficult to maneuver through, but I think that's because they're doing some reconstruction. I don't know if I would go all the way down south get get a regular pizza here, but is' definitely worth giving the 42" a try.
(4)Christine N.
Good place to eat, the pizza is great but you will wait for a long time so just expect that. The signs are posted that after you order expect to wait at least 2hrs. So you order upon arrival then wait to be seated and then your food is brought out to you. So expect to wait at least an hour or two to be seated esp. if your there with a large group. We got the 42" pizza. OMG this pizza is huge. I would recommend this place for the experience. If you have kids it's not very kid friendly. Go on an off night so you can avoid the crowds.
(4)Leti G.
While I know Big Lou's is famous for their GIGANTIC pizza, I have not had the pleasure of having to order that monstrosity. I have, however, ordered their 20 inch pizza and a salad and their cheesy bread. It was all so very good! The salad includes black olives, which I normally don't like, but in *this* salad I actually enjoyed them - I think it has to do with the cheese in the salad. The salad was a pretty big size and I had to stop myself from eating it all so that I could have room for the pizza! The garlic cheese bread was delicious too; so good I actually preferred it without the marinara sauce. And of course the pizza was heaven! It tasted perfectly made; just the right amount of sauce and cheese and toppings. There are no complaints here; everything was great and I will most definitely be going back to try some of their other dishes. We were a pretty big group and they already had a good amount of customers, but we didn't have to wait long for our table or our food. And our waitress was amazing! I think she was taking care of the entire bar area and she did a wonderful job - at one point she was carrying a tray full of a food and a tray full of drinks and she did it like a pro! I'm sorry that I can't remember her name or I would give her a big shout-out!

mmkay so the only thing that wowed me was the bartender, now his attitude is what i call excellent customer service.! the stupid cashier who rang us up was very fucken rude, and i wasnt that impressed with the pizza. dont get me wrong, the pizza is good but ive had better pizza. the garlic bread with cheese was better than our pizza. oh and the waitress is awesome too. =]

Yep, it's big! Ordered the 42" for ten of us and still brought some home. Saw the place on Man Vs. Food. Pizza slices are as long as your arm. This crust and difficult to eat but it was pretty good. More of a novelty than anything else. Not the best pizza I have ever had but far from the worst either.

I'll probably get ragged on for this but if I'm going to preserve the integrity of my Yelp reviews I've got to be honest... I just don't get the big deal. Yes the pizzas are impressively large and that's fun and all, but when it comes to the flavor of the pizza I'm just not enthused. I know tons of people love it and claim it's the best pizza ever. It isn't bad by any means, it's good, I'll eat it. It just doesn't knock my socks off. On a positive note their newer larger building accommodates the large crowd they get nicely. When you first get there you are usually greeted by a large line that runs all the way to the back of the restaurant, but it does move pretty quickly and we got seated and served pretty promptly and the server we had was good. It was a fun evening for my sweet nephew's birthday and I enjoyed reading all the kitschy signs on the wall. Go ahead and give it a whirl, you may be one of the many that love it.

Holy cow. I've always said to everyone that I could eat pizza for every meal of the day if I wanted to, and that's exactly what Big Lou's forced me to do! We had 4 people and we ordered the 37" pizza (which, by the way, WAY bigger than it sounds)...forget how huge it was, it TASTED delicious! They still managed to keep the quality of the pizza intact even over such a large area. That's skill. I can't say I'll ever go back, at least not for the 42", simply because I don't think I can handle it, haha. The ambiance was fun; cute little place in the middle of nowhere, though. The system was as efficient as they can make it with the number of people, but I went during off-peak hours on a Saturday, and it was not crowded at all. Great place, great pizza...everyone should make a trek out there at least once to fulfill their pizza dreams!

This is not a place for you to go and be in a rush, just take the family and relax and have a good time! The pizza is great and the atmosphere is not for all, so beware the wait and the atmosphere if you are in a rush. There is a sign that warns you out front to let you know of the possible wait. The pizza is great and the staff is very friendly and nice considering the place is overrun with people! This place is great for a family...we LOVED IT!

i heart this place! huge pizzas. tons of fresh toppings. pretty fast service. an ambiance you can't find anywhere! i just love it here. a friend from college introduced me to this haven for cheesiness... and i have shared the love with many others! i guess they have gotten a reputation for their huge pizzas- and they are(is 42" big enough?!?!?) !the crust is always a bit crisp but still a bit chewy. the servings are huge, and every bite will have each topping in it. it's just a good piece of pie! this is NOT a gourmet pizza place.... it's a meat, veggie and cheese kind of pizza place. they have tv's the usually are showing sports and you eat off of Styrofoam plates. but i think that all of that adds to the beauty that is big lou's! btw, i haven't been since it was featured on man v. food. this kind of upsets me.... i have been going to this place from before they "redid" the place. it used to have Styrofoam walls (seriously) and it was byob. oh how popularity will spoil that for ya! i am sure it's still a great place... just now an even longer wait! (but well worth it!) ps: i have met big lou, he is hilarious and such a nice guy. make sure to say hi to him when you go!

Great pizza, probably best in city. LOVE the crust; it's buttery and cheesy, YUM. The customer service here isn't the best (quite a few disgruntled employees, I recommend you double ck your order if you're doing take out, UGH) but I'll deal, the pizza is THAT good!

Being a Yankee, I can tell you this pizza blows hard. A Texan couldn't tell the difference between a pizza and a cow chip. It's all one pile of nasty grease. I had one slice and was farting for 3 days.

I'm sorry, this must be a regionally-acquired taste because Big Lou's didn't do it for me at all. I love a good pizza and will drive great distances when I hear about something that sounds great. However, despite the completely packed restaurant, which usually indicates something awesome, I was disappointed to find that the sauce had a distinctive barbeque flavor -not something most that favor classic NY pies would appreciate. Sorry, but big disappointment.

My family and I finally made it to Big Lou's over the past week. The pizza was good, but was VERY disappointed in the customer service at the register. I went up to place order and was total ignored by people taking the orders, they were more concerned about what someone was selling behind the counter (jewelry) than paying attention to me, I had to repeat my order 4 times. She actually walked alway from me while I was placing order to see what was being sold.
